Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated The Turning (Blood Ties, #1) in Books

I really enjoyed this.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw the amount of 1 and 2 star reviews for this, but I have to say I liked it. Okay, so it wasn't a typical paranormal romance. It has several gory scenes and some scary characters but there's still romance in it. And it's probably leaning more toward Urban Fantasy with a splash of Horror mixed in. I'll say it isn't for the squeamish because there are some detailed scenes of deformity and injuries and it isn't always pretty reading.
I really liked the two main characters, Nathan and Carrie, and some of the lesser seen ones; Ziggy, Max and the butler that I've currently forgotten the name of :S.
The progression of Carrie from concerned Doctor to kick-arse vampire hunter was an interesting journey and I loved her relationship with Nathan. They are so good together.

The story of Ed and Lorraine Warren who are demnologists that investigate supernatural and paranormal phenomena. In an opening we are also introduced to Annabelle (more of her to come) a possessed doll and how the Warren's dealt with her.
The film depicts the events from the Perron family haunting. A family who bought an old farm house only to find they may not be alone.
This is beautifully shot, the dark looks so good, cinematography is amazing as is the use of sound. From the score to the use of voices and creaks that populate the house the feeling of "something " been there is constant.
James Wan shows he is a master of his craft the film delivers on all the ghost story/haunted house/ possession vibe it's going for.
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are very likeable leads as the Warren's

Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated The People Under the Stairs (1991) in Movies
Sep 17, 2020
The Plot: When young Fool (Brandon Adams) breaks into the home of his family's greedy and uncaring landlords, he discovers a disturbing scenario where incestuous adult siblings have mutilated a number of boys and kept them imprisoned under stairs in their large, creepy house. As Fool attempts to flee before the psychopaths can catch him, he meets their daughter, Alice (A.J. Langer), who has been spared any extreme discipline by her deranged parents. Can Fool and Alice escape before it's too late?
Craven has stated that The People Under the Stairs was partially inspired by a news story from the late 1970s, in which two burglars broke into a Los Angeles household, inadvertently causing the police to discover two children who had been locked away by their parents.
Its a really good movie.
Lindsay (1717 KP) rated Max and Dax Meet in Books

Things may just turn out well for them and the animal or people being introduced. Who to say. In this book See what happen when Max meets Dax? Will they get along? Dax seem like he want to get to know Max but will it work out?
The pictures are done well. I really like that. The story is understandable. It easy to read. The pictures kind of tell the story and pleasant to look at. Good for young readers and children. It even got some lesson in the book about children and animals.
