Ruth Frampton (577 KP) rated Look for Ladybug in Plant City in Books
Apr 10, 2018
This vibrant, engaging and detailed book will keep you and your little ones busy for hours hunting down the over 500 objects to look for. I looked at this first so I could guide my little one and became instantly engrossed in the small details and an additional storyline that I could pick up. My favourite must be the school, so many different ideas all on a double page spread. Although the main aim is to find Ladybug for Daisy the extra panel gives the re-readability and then when your little one progresses the independent means to keep coming back to the book. My little one was spotted reading it to her dolls. Definitely recommended.
I'm newer to Brad Meltzer's work, but my dad loves him, so I was excited to give him a go. I have to tell you that I was not disappointed, that's for sure! This book is filled with phenomenal plots and twists. I wasn't much of a history fan in school, but this book, was filled with truth from history a long with the occasional fiction to keep the reader hooked, line and sinker. I highly recommend this book with 4 stars and two thumbs up. I can't wait for another book like this.

ALilLacey (2 KP) rated The Rithmatist in Books

Loved this book! I would love to see this as a movie as long as great care was taken in making the magic happen. Wars fought with only chalk drawings by a few select Rithmatists who can control the lines. Unfortunately for Joel he wasn't selected as a Rithmatist but still learns as much as he can about them and their history. This obsession proves to be useful after students go missing from school.
The illustrations in the book were fantastic and went right along with the story and helped with understanding how exactly the chalk drawings are setup and used. Seriously cannot wait for book #2 to hopefully come out sooner rather than later. Amazing author!

Don't diddle dead things!
Me and the wife were watching 'the possession of Hannah Grace' and it reminded me of this 90s gem. Ewan McGregor takes a job as a night watchman at a morgue to pay for law school and it's obviously kinda freaky but then he begins to realise he's being implicated for a series of murders. Great psychological build ups and scares and great performances from josh brolin and Nick Nolte. The only real let down is Ewan McGregor and his terrible American accent which is so bad it's almost distracting. Most definitely worth a watch.
Auburn (57 KP) rated Seventh Born (The Witchling Academy #1) in Books
Apr 10, 2019
Let me start out with saying that this was not what I was expecting in the least. It felt like a mash up of Harry Potter and The Black Mage series. Wands, magic, a school for such things and a hierarchy just waiting for someone to come and break it.
While I enjoyed the main character and her traits. She knew what she was as a seventhborn but rebelled against just blending in. Wanting to find her family and learn magic. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the romance. A teacher/student romance just puts me off and while it is well done I didnt particularly like the way it all panned out.

Cowabunga
In this animated 4th instalment of the original franchise, the Turltles are semi retired, with Leonardo training in the deep Jungles, Michelangelo ironically dressing as a turtle for kids party's, donatello working as I.T support, Raphael having a secret Night life and April o'neil now working for a mysteriously rich relic collector, the four brothers aren't as close as they once were. until one night OG badass Casey Jones teams up with the mysterious vigilante nightwatcher, they discover ancient monsters terrorizing the city and the return of the foot clan.
This movie has a great coming of age story, wonderful cgi animation and a well balanced tone. This is one for all old school Half Shell fans.

you got a fiend in me
What really happens when we aren't playing with our toys when we are out. In this Pixar movie they come to life and live among each other and are like a family. Woody is the head toy and Andy's favorite but, when a brand new toy gets given to Andy for his birthday is there a new king of the castle. Toys are always evolving and just like the new hot girl transferring to a new school and taking over the roost from the current popular one there is competition for top dog. Will Andy's toys get along or does one get discarded for newer additions.

Swim for it
A master diver/rescuer for the coast guard Ben Randall (Costner) has an accident at sea and is asked to teach A school cadets (Coast Guard enlistees) the right and wrong ways to save someone and survival skills. A cadet Jake Fischer (Kutcher) has a troubled past from a small town and is a world class swim champ is arrogant and is put to the test by Randall. Will he have to swim for it or be a fish out of water.
A good look into the way Coast Guard divers/rescuers are trained and what they have to endure. The story line is pretty good and the movie dosen't have a dull moment

EPIC
Tom Hanks plays Forrest Gump plays a young man who is very slow but, smart growing up in the south during the 60's with his mom (Field). His life through school, the Vietnam war where he befriends his LT (Sinise), his lust for the love of his life Jenny (wright), to coming home and becoming the shrimp king of the world and just on more historical adventures.
The movie is kind of set to Billy Joel's "We didn't start the fire" as a ton of these historical events take place during this movie in which forrest has some connection with. The movie aslo has one of the best 60's soundtracks set to it of all time.

The games a foot!
A great all too little known film from '86. Set in Sherlock Holmes school days setting the story background as he becomes the worlds most famous detective. I remember seeing this at the cinema and it is just the sort of film full of action and adventure everyone should love. Steven Spielberg was involved in the production and it shows. This film has a feel to it like the Mummy and Indiana Jones films. It also has some very good SFX for the time, including very early use of cgi. If you have missed this film then you are missing out, track it down!
