This book is a semi-humorous science-fiction novel that takes place in a Star Trek-esque universe. Of course, everyone knows that red shirts always bite the dust, and these characters want to figure out why.
To avoid spoilers, all I'm going to say that it's meta.

Great book! I read this when I was quite young and so the science talk was very much over my head but my love for dinosaurs got me through. I will pick this up again one day to re-read it, hopefully I will enjoy it a lot more.

"When I was 10, my mother gave me Eve Curie’s biography of her mother, and Marie Curie’s story became for me the epitome of a life in science: its dedication, its delights, and its frustrations and travails. I still have my original copy— now autographed by the author."
