Plenty of homage to the original (1 more)
A few genre flipsides
More treat than trick
This definitely plays tribute to the original in many ways. With certain scenes, settings and especially the music. These are nice touches and definitely tie it in as a new direct sequel to the original.
I was surprised a lot of the kills weren't that gory and quite often not on screen. Often leaving the horror for your mind to image. Overall a good film although the ending felt a bit abrupt, but I liked the little details put in.

Twisty turny mystery thriller about a quartet of stage magicians, who use their skills and talents to perform a trio of impressive and highly publicised crimes (robbing a bank, draining the account of corrupt individuals etc and redistributing their targets wealth), all the time being chased by both an FBI agent and a magician debunker (ummm ... two separate people, just to be clear).
It's flashy stuff, with little in the way of substance, however, and an ending you can see coming from about a 1/3rd of the way through.
Still might watch the sequel, though!

Watched yesterday probably the first time I've seen at the cinema that was meant Netflix but for one week only its Been at cinemas cross the country anyway the film going into the sequel could top the orignal knives out yes it does from the many red herrings thruout the film to Daniel Craig's dodgy accent as beniot blanc the only returning cast member from the first movie. There's a twist in the middle of the movie that I didn't see coming which I won't give away and a surprise cameo which I wasn't expecting either overall good movie

David McK (3562 KP) rated Alien: Romulus (2024) in Movies
Aug 17, 2024 (Updated Aug 17, 2024)
Newest (at the time of writing) entry in the increasingly-expanding 'Alien' universe, with this particular entry set between the events of the original 'Alien' and its sequel 'Aliens'.
So between the two best entries in the franchise, in other words.
I found it also heavily dependant upon those movies, with several call-backs and references made to those (and even to the much-maligned 'Alien; Resurrection' and to 'Prometheus'); almost a case of 'pick the best bits and mash them together' in several parts.
Enjoyable enough, yes, but - to me - it doesn't reach the heights of the earlier entries.

David McK (3562 KP) rated The Incredibles 2 (2018) in Movies
Jan 6, 2025
2018 sequel to the 2004 original, with this one largely switching the focus away from Mr Incredible to his wife Elastigirl, and with this picking up almost immediately from the end of that previous movie in a world where Superheroes are real, a common occurrence, and outlawed by a society that is sick and tired of the destruction that seems to follow them around.
Not everybody feels that way, of course, with some citizens wishing to undo the outlawing of the same, which here provides the catalyst for the plot.
Enjoyable? Yes.
As much so as the first? That's a tougher call ...
