Merissa (13619 KP) rated New Nebraska Heat (New Nebraska #2) in Books
Dec 8, 2025
NEW NEBRASKA HEAT is the second full-length novel in the New Nebraska series, and features a new quintet of Serenity, Hunter, Bryce, Sebastian, and Dagger.
Serenity escaped from a vampire's den, traumatised and scarred in more ways than one. She gets a job at Hunter's nightclub, but applies for a job as a designer at Bryce's company. She meets Sebastian through his mum, and Dagger through an ongoing case. All four men feel a connection with Serenity, but all four also take it slowly and carefully, taking into consideration her past.
This is a long book, but well-paced, with plenty of action going on, as well as slower, softer times, where Serenity and her men get to know each other. I loved the game of Truth or Dare, especially Dagger's dare at the end. I was hoping that because of the bond, Bryce would be able to touch others too, not just Serenity, but it doesn't seem that way.
One big plus for me was getting to see Cece and her men again. It was a delight catching up with them, and I'm glad Cece and Serenity are friends.
The overall storyline in this book has more of an ongoing arc to it, and I wonder if Jasper and the new human will play a part in the next book, or if it will go in a different direction.
This was a hot, caring, and action-filled story that kept my attention from beginning to end. Absolutely recommended by me.

Merissa (13619 KP) rated His Witch to Keep (Keepers of the Veil #2) in Books
Apr 19, 2023
This is book 2 in the Keepers of the Veil series and, although I haven't read Book 1, this in no way diminished my enjoyment of this book!
Serenity is doing jobs which she wouldn't usually do, on duff information, as she tries to cooperate with her sister's kidnappers and get her sister returned safely to her. Alexi is there but Serenity doesn't know if it is to help or hinder her, but the sparks are flying from the outset.
I loved how this was written from both perspectives. Serenity isn't just a "woe-is-me damsel in distress". She is a kick-ass alpha female who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to fight for it. Alexi I loved - he has a darkness within him that is not surprising considering his 'job' but his love for Serenity shone through, even if he wouldn't admit to it out loud.
Full of action and a twist that you may or may not see coming, this is a hot and fiery story that will definitely leave you wanting more. I am off to look for book 1 and also see when book 3 is due out. I do hope that Nikolai gets his story told as the banter between him and Serenity allowed you to see more of his character than what he usually allowed his brother to see. Definitely recommended.

Kim Tierney (5309 KP) rated Hollywood Park in Books
May 27, 2020
Hollywood Park, by Mikell Jollett, is an eloquently written memoir of heartbreak, identity, and turmoil. It is the story of a broken boy that grows into a man that wants not only to understand why he is broken but also how to fix the parts that he can. He spent his childhood memorizing and reciting the serenity prayer; as an adult he finally understood the line about changing the things he can.

Question
Name the show with these lyrics in the theme song,
"Take my love, take my land,Take me where I cannot stand.
I don't care, I'm still free,
You can't take the sky from me.
Take me out to the black,
Tell them I ain't comin back.
Burn the land and boil the sea,
You can't take the sky from me.
There's no place, I can be,
Since I've found Serenity.
And you can't take the sky from me."
