Out of the entire Shakespeare canon, I found this to be the most difficult to get through. The Tempest deals with huge themes, like slavery and freedom, heaven and hell, and purgatory. It's a masterpiece, but I had to read it 3 times.

"There are many poets that I might have included in this list of books, but, to my mind, Shakespeare is the greatest of all in terms of the breadth of his knowledge, his lyricism, humor and the universal applicability of his work."

Better to read carefully otherwise hard to concentrate
Listened on Audible.co.uk.
While Milton's classic fails to live up to Dante's Inferno, it's still an interesting listen. Admittedly I completely switched off listening, it requires careful reading to understand some of the old dialect - similar to accessing Shakespeare without any context. I can vouch for reading as a fan of Shakespeare, Dante and Chaucer.

The in-between explanations barely scratched the surface. The obvious irritating misogynistic aspect was also a big turn-off although understandably rehashing some fundamental themes of the Bible. Overall, sinfully boring to listen to.

Martyr ( John Shakespeare book 1)
By Rory Clements
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This ingenious debut introduces John Shakespeare, Elizabethan England's most remarkable investigator, in a tale of conspiracy and murder that succeeds brilliantly as both historical fiction and crime thriller.

This is one of my favourite eras to read! I really enjoyed this book it was full of murder and intrigue in a very dark time especially if you were religious and on the wrong side. It’s definitely a book I recommend if you like historical fiction. It has some very interesting characters along the way.

I am a true book nerd, *I will read anything and everything - except zombies. Currently I live in a canyon, in a cabin in Central Oregon, USA. My fur babies are a Shakespeare and Archer. History and things that go bump in the night thrill me.

One of the best Shakespeare pieces I've been made to read. But overall just a bit humorous, I suppose that goes for much of Shakespeare's work really.

Othello spirals into a madness from which he never returns, due to a handkerchief... Yep.

Iago, you sneaky bastard.

BBC Shakespearian comedy, with David Mitchell in the lead role, that basically centres around Shakespeare himself and that - in true sitcom fashion - is centred around where he got the ideas for his plays from.

Some episodes better than others.

Some jokes land; others not so much.
