For a change the film out does the book
The film that followed this story is one of my favourites as it has one of the most surprising endings ever for a horror film. I remember watching it twice back to back just to make sure that I didn't miss anything.
The story is great and grips from the start, but wish it had been a longer story. This is one of Kings better shorts (along with The Walk).
Well worth the time

This is the first book in this series by this author. This is a short sweet story which is fun and enjoyable. This is an office romance story, this book can be read in one sitting. The story is fast paced and will suck you in from the start. Fantastic characters with amazing chemistry. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

Highly recommended

It's getting a bit late to post these festive reviews so I'll keep it short. It's only a short book, anyway.

This book contains four short stories, all crime/detective tales, starting with The Mistltoe Murder. My personal favourite was the final story, The Twelve Clues of Christmas. Every story was great, though, and A Very Commonplace Murder was particularly surprising.

James manages to include a fantastic little hint/twist at the end of the stories, changing your whole perception on what you've just read. This made the crimes so much more interesting and real. They were relatively simple crimes - stabbings, poisoning - but there's always a lot more going on under the surface than you'd expect.

A fantastic little collection, with a foreword by Val McDermid too. 4 stars.

This was a short, sweet read. I am not a huge "holiday themed" book girl but it was so very sweet. Noel and Tazmin made me smile and laugh. They felt like siblings I never had. They were so adorable.. The pain Tazmin went through made me sad.. This was a sexy read and fairly short so if you are looking for a cute christmas themed sweet story I would highly recommend this one.

Fairy tales for grown ups
This collection of short stories is set on the island of Neverness. All of the stories are interconnected and characters reoccur as adults after they were in a story as children. We see how an experience in one story then becomes a cautionary tale or a fairytale in another. I loved the atmosphere in this book: menacing, dreamlike, happy, sad - like a fairytale really.
The language used was really very poetic. If you're attracted to this as a Fantasy reader, the language is weighted more on the 'Literary Fiction' side. I like both, and this didn't even occur to me until I read another review on Goodreads! There are plenty of Fantasy writers out there whose prose can be lyrical!
I also liked how the beginning and the end of the book were connected. Very clever, original writing, this is a short story collection that didn't feel to me as though they were short stories. Well worth a read!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this gorgeous book!

Little to no relation to previous games
Short and small, but still pretty sweet.
Despite being just an incredibly short spin-off of the Assassin's Creed series, and having only 3 very small maps, this game is a highly enjoyable one!

The story is enjoyable, if somewhat unoriginal, with some definite similarities to ACIII, revolving around saving slaves and killing the slavers. The story also shows very little relation to previous games, except from a cameo from an ACIII character, and the obligatory weird glowy item that adds little to nothing to the story apart from adding a few missions.

Despite all this, the story is extremely enjoyable!

The gameplay is incredibly fun and pretty fast paced, visiting swamps, towns and Mexican colonies, leaving the played wanting more, and to learn more about what happened to the main character after the game.

Overall a great game that definitely deserves to be more than a spin-off.

I've never read a Dicken's novel before, I always felt like I would come out of them dumbfounded... his writing seems too intellectual and educational for my little brain. But, this is just a ghost story, so it was easy enough to get on with!

Yes, I enjoyed this, but it wasn't my favourite short story. A classic old school ghost story, but it could have been so much creepier than it was, so that let me down. There is a slight pang of shock at the tail end of this short, but it's nothing to write home about.

What's most interesting, to me, about this book, is the fact that it's been pulled out of a personal tragedy of Dicken's.

This is a short but steamy coffee break book that tells the story of Gemma, the witch. She doesn't have much of a social life (being a witch) so every year she bespells a pumpkin man to do all the chores she hates. As a perk to herself, she also asks him to make love to her each year. However, one year a wolf shows up and the tale takes on a new twist.

Although this is only a short story, it covers a year of time. Well-written and with enough of a story to make it enjoyable, this has humour, passion and loneliness. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A thriller based on the true story of the Manson family's murders in the summer of '69. It feels like a cliche home invasion film. With a run time of 73 minutes it feels like half a film.
