Short Read
This M&B book whilst interesting doesn’t meet with the usual standards. The characters are lovely and the story line keeps you thinking but the lack of details is disappointing.
Dana (24 KP) rated Gilded Ashes (Cruel Beauty Universe, #1.5) in Books

I absolutely love Rosamund Hodge's writing. She somehow manages to balance beauty and darkness perfectly. It reminds me a lot of the Grimm fairy tales, but in a way, more romantic.
This is a retelling of Cinderella and has become one of my favorites. It keeps the darkness, but keeps it in some sort of fantastical world that makes it even more beautiful.
This was just a short story, but that doesn't mean I didn't absolutely love it. I need to get my hands on Crimson Bound soon. Even in this short story, Rosamund was able to fully flesh out the characters and make them completely believable. I didn't feel like the story was rushed or too drawn out. It was just right.
I would highly recommend this to people who love dark stories, fairy tale retellings, or just a good short story.

The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Close Range in Books

Author Annie Proulx became famous after her short story “Brokeback Mountain” was made into a movie in 2005 that won three Academy Awards and received five more Oscar nominations. (Plus, Proulx was just awarded the 2018 Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction.) This short story was originally published in the collection “Close Range: Wyoming Stories.” You can read my review of this book in my latest blog post here.

Ok, so.. I was interested because of the werebear thing. The story wasn't horrible but super short and wasn't impressed with the plot. I might try the next and see if it's better.

Great cast (1 more)
Nice cinematography
Brutal Western feel story based on true life tales of 3 bootlegging brothers. It has a great cast and good production values. Just falls short of being truly great.
Amanda (30 KP) rated My Kind of Crazy: Living in a Bipolar World in Books

Good book but rather short and disjointed--much like my bipolar mind. Interesting to see the point of views from her husband and son. Very interesting and they add color to the story.

3.75 stars.
I like the development the characters went through in this, I just feel like their needs to be another book/short story where we see our main character get the boy.
