Men are shit and teenagers are psychopaths. Point-blank absurd, pure trash, and an outright blast - 𝘓𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘢 as one of the goofier and more fun beat-for-beat 𝘍𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘈𝘵𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 clones out there. What more of any value can I even say? This is exactly as advertised - checks off every bulletpoint for stalker flicks of the era but does so with a sublime verve and hearty layer of blunt sleaze. Alicia Silverstone is phenomenal, and the whole thing just looks fantastic, I mean really it's shot perfectly and has a real dope soundtrack to it as well. But apparently the director based the lead on a real girl he knew and just didn't change the name so he was legally forced to alter it; then he just swapped the place of one letter after it was completed and every time she's mentioned it's switched with some of the most hilariously shoddy dubbing since... damn, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘮𝘢𝘯? Lmao, love it. Also the carousel is just as hilarious and out-of-place as everyone has mentioned. Features no shortage of delightfully raucous segments but imo the best way to frame this is as a sick man being forced to be haunted by his own pedophilic tendencies over and over again, an endless cycle of pathetic men being rightfully tortured by the girls they (and society) prey upon. Helps that all these characters except for Silverstone are dumb as rocks. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘋𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘳.

Charlie is now working for the Institute, a group who defend against demons who cross the veil, but only doing it in an effort to regain her demon so she can go and hunt Stefan in the demon world. Unfortunately, though, it seems that her old master, Damien, didn't die years ago like she thought and is torturing enforcers of the Institute in a bid to get her attention.

Charlie/Muse suffered terribly at his hands as we see in flashbacks and even her demon is afraid of the sick demon so it's a terrible struggle for Muse to know he's back and hunting for her. Eventually, though, they come face to face and she's transported back to the Netherworld. Bad news in the fact she's in Damien's clutches but good news in the fact she can now find Stefan.

Things don't always go to plan, though, and we have a lot of struggles in the demon realm as they try to figure out how to get themselves back across the Veil and stop Damien

It was action packed but I missed Stefan for a lot of the book. Gone was the protective, fun guy we met in the first one. His demon has taken over and he's not as carefree as he used to be. It's definitely a bit of a rollercoaster this one.

Off to start book three to see if Stefan can control his demon half once more.

This story was heartbreaking and maddening, horrific and unbelievable, sad and disturbing. I don't usually read books that are based on real events - something about knowing it's true turns me off, but I wanted to give this a try. It's still not something I found particularly enthralling, but it was definitely an interesting read.
Honestly, I can't decide who I despise more, Shelly or Dave! Both did horrendous things, but Dave's obvious disregard for what happened, turning a blind eye to what he witnessed and *still* insisting that there was no abuse, denying that there could have been anything wrong happening while being a partial participant, his refusal to face the facts seriously pissed me off. As for Shelly, how a person can do such things to another human being, let alone her own children, baffles me and makes me sick. Spout off as much as you want about her having a mental illness, I don't care, what she did was disgusting and I don't think she'll spend nearly enough years in prison. My heart goes out to the sisters. I dealt with abuse from my mother when I was young, but certainly not to this degree, and I can't imagine how painful it was for them (not just physically, but mentally and emotionally). The ending, knowing that each woman was healing and moving on, creating their own happiness, put a big smile on my face!
