Auburn (57 KP) rated Blood Heir (Blood Heir, #1) in Books

Told from opposing POV this book is long. The world building requires the length. You learn about a new world with Affinities and slave trading. Princess Ana and Con-man Ramson have to race against the empire and themselves to save everyone.
I enjoyed this book but I didn't love it. The plot was fantastic but it was so long. It took me a few days to finish which is weird because normally when I start a great book I rush through it. The slow burn was there and the characters had growth. But it's book 1 in the series and we all know what that means.
The Affinities were something that really got me into the book. I wish they had more of a presence. Otherwise I have all good things for this book. It was great and interesting the slow burn enemies to lovers is a favorite trope of mine.

This is such a good story to read. This book is the perfect mix of entertaining story and slow burn romance. The characters are perfect, a swoon worthy alpha male meets a strong female. This is a second chance romance read. This book will leave you with a book hang over. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

ClareR (5726 KP) rated The Paris Apartment in Books
Apr 14, 2023
I so enjoyed this slow burn! The Paris Apartment is a psychological thriller, and it kept me turning the pages, desperate to find out what had happened to Jess’ half brother, Ben.
Everything feels threatening: the apartment block, the other inhabitants and even Paris itself. There are riots taking place throughout the city, and Jess can’t seem to find anywhere that feels safe. Hey, even I didn’t feel safe reading it!
But could I put it down? Absolutely not!

Atmospheric (3 more)
Dark
Tense
Effective slow burn horror
I absolutely loved this movie and why not, Bryan Bertino was involved as producer and it was directed by the son of Norman Bates. This film is so damn dark. There has not been a single film about this kind of stuff this dark and well made since The Exorcist. This truly is a atmospheric dark masterpiece. A must watch for all true horror fans and probably the biggest hidden gem in horror history.
Jesters_folly (230 KP) rated Truth Seekers in TV
Jan 18, 2021
Truth Seekers is a slow burn, each episode is a self contained sub plot leading into the next episode and a plotline that leads through he show which. All the episodes are linked to the last one as the events of the series come to a head. There isn't much comedy which is a bit surprising for a Nick Frost/Simon Pegg show but the stories are good and the over arching plot is revealed in a but intriguing way
Josh Huitt (29 KP) rated Blade Runner (1982) in Movies

Contains spoilers, click to show
Which version do I review? The original? Directors cut? Aunt June's revised 5th edition? How bout just the basics? Decker is a Blade Runner. He hunts down replicants. Is he one too? Who knows. Wanna learn how to make origami? Sure why not. Darryl Hannah is super sexy. One of the best death monologues in a movie ever! Not her... Rutgers. And how neo-noir can you get?!? Cyberpunk baby!!! It's a slow burn though, so be prepared for a long ride.

Excellent screenplay from a great short story (1 more)
Thomas Jane is amazing
Just a good old fashioned ghost story
I try not to put too much stock in Netflix produced Horror Films. I Am The Pretty Thing... Was not so great, and prior King offering Gerald's Game could've been better.
But they got this one right. It was creepy as shit.
A true slow burn o a movie, it drags a little in the beginning, but the slow spiral downward in to true dread for Jane's character is felt by audience members.
A true story of a man's slow decent into insanity and desperation that makes only the most heartfelt viewer feels for poor ol' Wilf.
All in all, this is a good offering by Netflix. I hope they follow it up with something just as good.
Dread is as good as fear when it comes to the horror genre. And dread is what this makes you feel.

Auburn (57 KP) rated Mackenzie (Heritage Bay Series, #2) in Books
Apr 10, 2019
The best kind of emotional journey a book could have. Mackenzie sucks you in from page one and keeps the twists coming not to mention the all of the juicy drama M.A Foster can smush into a book. The anticipation of the romance and the slow realistic burn of it just adds to the already perfect mix. Making this one of the best contemporary books I have read lately. You will laugh, you will cry, and you may just stay up all night reading it.
Obsessed book reviews (49 KP) rated Melt for You (Slow Burn #2) in Books

This is the second book in this series by this author. This book will definitely take you on an emotional roller coaster of a ride. When you get to the epilogue you will be crying, have the tissues at the ready. This is a sweet, funny, emotional, slow burn romantic read. The characters were well written with fantastic chemistry between them . I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.
