Erika (17788 KP) rated Whip It (2009) in Movies

This movie was Drew Barrymore's directorial debut, and she did a really good job. The small, po-dunk town was portrayed honestly and well. The roller derby action was shot so well, and it happened to take place in my home town, so I'm partial.
Ellen Page was great as the main character, she was pitch perfect. This is also only one of two movies I can stand Kristen Wiig in, which is really saying something.

Mixed Show
The first series is great, something very different to your normal shows, especially with the Artic setting. The first series is like a Whodunit in a small town with a small and rather odd population.
The following series got gradually weaker and weirder. Ending with a very short 3rd series that wasn't needed. Watch the first series, 2nd if you really enjoyed it but you're not missing much with the 3rd.

An interesting anthropological look into small town life in England, which also has a coven of witches who appear to rule the place. The book felt pretty timeless and kept my interest throughout. I'm glad I read it but don't really have much else to say about it. :)

Took awhile to complete....
Another great Stephen King classic that I've finally read. I expected more Randall Flagg and more dark side than small town politics, but loved the ending of the novel Vs the old TV mini series... it's an old novel but I still wont spoil it... lol

The story is kind of dragged out and I feel like it could have been shortened a lot. It's basically telling the story of a small town but there just isn't enough excitement to capture me and make me want to keep reading as it just all feels like much of the same

No One Is Coming to Save Us is a hard book to explain. Set in North Carolina it follows the life of 5 people who are related and not related.
First there is Ava who is desperate to have a child, but she barely sees her husband Henry and she has had too many miscarriages to count.
Then there is Sylvia, Ava's mother who is the stereotypical black mother, in everyone's business and determined to get the best for her child.
Up next is Jay Jay who used to live in the same small town. At the first opportunity he moved away from the small town, but now he is back and wants to win back Ava's affection.
Henry, is Ava's husband and he hasn't done right by her and when she finds out, all bets are off.
Don, is Sylvia's husband, but they haven't lived together since Ava was a little girl.
All of these people are living their lives in small town North Carolina. There really wasn't much of a climax or anything to look forward to in this book. It was a disappointment for me.

Trish (4 KP) rated Red Ruby Heart in a Cold Blue Sea in Books

This coming of age story is set in a small town in Maine. There is some mystery but mostly it is the story of a young girl dealing with tragedy, heartbreak, and growing up. I fell in love with Florine and hope that the rest of her life goes smoother than her first 17 years!
