BeardyJim (611 KP) rated Happier Than Ever by Billie Eilish in Music
Oct 18, 2021
Vocals are outstanding (1 more)
Very catchy
Great, ethereal sound, but less edgy
I won the Smashbomb giveaway for this album, and ended up giving it to my son for his 18th birthday... however, despite not being a huge fan of Billie Eilish, I still really enjoy it!
Billie's ethereal vocals are always outstanding, and this latest offering almost has an "older" feel to it in places. It's more upbeat in general, but has some old-timey sounds to certain songs (the title track, "Happier Than Ever" in particular, until about half way through).
One thing I did notice, is the songs seem less edgy (in their sound, not the lyrics)... so there aren't any tracks which are really comparable to earlier songs like Bad Guy, or You Should See Me In A Crown etc.
The inlay cover and artwork is all very nice, and beautifully presented in a gatefold-style cardboard case.
All-in-all though, it's a nice evolution of Billie's music, and I'm interested to see how she progresses over time.

Doing Wright ( Teach Me book 1)
By Raven Dark
Once read a review will be written via Smashbomb and link posted in comments
Nineteen year old Jacy is a college girl with a wild and wicked streak. She's always had a penchant for older men, so it's no surprise she'd fantasize about being taken by her professor in every possible way. Then again, her imagination has always gotten her into trouble.
When the sinfully gorgeous Mr. Wright shows up at her door one night, she's sure she can tempt the brooding alpha male into taking control and claiming what he needs, but at what price?
Whether it's on her knees or bent over a bed, he'll give her a night she'll never forget, but she's been to this party before with disastrous results. Will their tryst be the best night of her life, or the worst mistake she's ever made?
It’s exactly as described! A short novel with well written hot sex! Not much else to say!

Amy's marriage to Mark isn't the best - he can't resist the girls, he can't hold down a job. But she doesn't want to know just how bad things are until his gambling habit brings the debt collector to her door. He makes it brutally clear how she can pay off Mark's debts ...And Amy's troubles are only beginning. Someone else wants Mark for herself, and she is ready to steal Amy's man, her self-respect and even her children. As the stakes rise, Amy will either lose everything, or she'll have to learn how to be as hard and ruthless as her enemies ...
I read it in less than 6 hours! Couldn’t put it down! It made me sad and bloody angry and was very well written. The life choices these two people made nearly destroyed their children yes it was bleak but with the best outcome! I really enjoy this style of written too so was a really good read.

How far would you go to make all your dreams come true?
Amber Patterson is tired of being a nobody: an invisible woman who melts into the background. She deserves more. She deserves a life of wealth, luxury and leisure.
Daphne Parrish is the golden girl of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut. With her model looks, her picture-perfect mansion and her millionaire husband, Jackson, she has everything Amber wants.
Amber’s envy could eat her alive—if she didn’t have a plan. Before long, she has become Daphne’s closest friend, and is catching the eye of Jackson. But a skeleton from her past could destroy everything, and if discovered, Amber’s well-laid plan may end in disaster…
Bloody brilliant! Had me gripped from start to finish so many little twists and such a brilliant outcome. I’ve never read liv Constantine but will be reading a lot more of her!
Highly recommend!

If you want Netflix on the go then download this app. With the ability to download certain films and tv programmes and enable you to watch whenever you want, you will be hard pushed not to find something to your taste.
Being a cineaste, Netflix doesn’t cater for everything. If you would like to see tv series from the 60s or 70s or a film pre-1980s, then you will find it difficult but for modern audiences, this is a treat.
The layout is a little wild for my taste in apps and it is not immediately accessible for fine tune searching but if you know what you are looking for, you won’t have a problem.
Netflix is pushing their own films and tv series more now (and not a bad thing because fortunately a lot of it is high quality) so keep this in mind if you are not yet a member and look on Smashbomb or other websites for recommendations on what to watch.

Great modern take on vampire genre
I won this book in a giveaway by Smashbomb, thank you. That said, it will not influence my review.
I haven't read many books with a prologue, this one had one and set the book up nicely that it wasn't going to shy away from the gruesome, being a vampire story you would expect nothing less.
The main characters Taz (no relation to Warner Bros one that ate everything) and Morgana (Morgan) I liked pretty much straight away for their love/hate relationship in and out of the bedroom (Some steamy scenes, be warned). Taz, arrogant, egotistical and generally full of himself, then you have Morgan, she reminded me of Selene from Underworld films in that she took no nonsense and was her own woman. They are forced to work together to solve the gruesome murders that threaten to uncover the centuries hidden vampire world that Kayla (human) thinks she is very close to uncovering.
A book that you can't put down, full of excitement, sex and vampiric action. I would highly recommend it and can't wait to read the next book.

My favourite app (sorry Smashbomb)
I’ve been a member of goodreads for a fair few years now and I quite honestly cant stand the thought of not having it now.
It’s a brilliant place to keep track of all your reading, make ‘shelves’ to save books you like the look of, books you have, books you’ve read.. the possibilities are endless!
As well as this, there are features such as adding friends (and having little competitions to see who can reach their reading goal first), setting yearly reading challenges, looking up a book you might like and seeing the reviews to decide if to get it. There are groups to speak to likeminded people.
Many a time I have spent *cough* hours *cough* just sat scrolling through books and I LOVE it.
If there are any readers out there who haven’t discovered the joys of Goodreads yet then what are you waiting for?? Go!!
(Also feel free to add me on there;))

Barry Newman (204 KP) rated Dracula in TV
Apr 10, 2020
I missed this over Christmas so was quite chuffed to win a copy in a Smashbomb give away.
After watching all 3 episodes I have to say it takes some serious liberties with the source material (particularly in the devisive third episode) but as a whole I really enjoyed this. I am a fan of Sherlock (particularly the early episodes) so I liked what the team did here. The look is suitably gothic with a nice stream of dark humour running through. The production values and special effects were also quite impressive for a beeb production. I had never heard of Claes Bang before this but I have to say he was a brilliant bit of casting as Dracula.. charismatic and brooding.
Allot of people seem to hate episode 3 bringing Dracula to the present day but I personally found that episode allot of fun and an improvement over the slightly slow 2nd episode. (The first was the best by far though)
Overall though the series isn't quite something that will be regarded as a classic in years to come but I had fun watching it and will certainly recommend it.

Castle of Sand ( A Shade of Vampire book 3)
By Bella Forrest
Once read a review will be written via Smashbomb and link posted in comments
What Sofia has with Derek feels like a sandcastle; temporary and something that the waves of life and time will soon ruin...
Since the return of Gregor Novak, the island has turned several shades darker. His hatred toward Sofia and thirst for fresh blood lead to a brutal war igniting between father and son.
Meanwhile, the hunters are gaining formidable strength and resources by the day; they know that the safety of The Shade hangs entirely on its ability to remain hidden from them.
And a sinister secret lies in wait for Sofia within the bowels of an Egyptian desert ... a secret that threatens to crush her sandcastle much sooner than she could have expected.
A good read! Nothing has really jumped out of this series so far to go hey that’s a brilliant series but saying that it’s definitely a decent read! Shame we have to have a death but at least she’s not scared of letting loved characters go!

Horror in the Woods
By Lee Mountford
Once read a review will be written via Smashbomb and link posted in comments
First they found a desecrated body…
… then hell followed.
Four friends spend a weekend hiking in the woods, getting back to nature, never imagining they would end up being hunted.
But they soon stumble into the territory of the sick and twisted Webb family—psychopaths with a taste for human meat. And these monsters are hungry.
Will the group make it out of the woods alive? To do so, they will have to face these cannibals head-on, and unravel the secret behind the twisted family’s very existence.
You will love this brutal, gory, and violent horror story, because it raises the tension on every page and will leave you exhausted and drained.
Honestly it was well written,a strong story and decent characters. Also it was very middle of the road when it comes to these types of stories. I knew Tim was one of the from the Start it was made quite obvious. Overall a good and gory if not predictable.
