Nostalgic Feel
Outstanding!
This falls just short of a true masterpiece. I felt there was no need to reference bruce wayne in the film at all or show the death of his parents as most avid fans will already know the deal but i can see why this may have been done for a new audience. There were a few things that I love about this movie...you show this to someone who has never heard or seen it and you could believe it was a film made 20 even 30 years ago. The other is that even if you don't like comic book movies, you could still enjoy this as a film about a struggling man in society. Saw it twice and was just as mesmerising the 2nd time.

Boisterous, anarchic satire with absurdist elements, concerning the socio-political awakening of a young African-American man. Cash Green (it's not always subtle) discovers a talent for telemarketing, but only while he uses his 'white voice' (the actor is ostentatiously dubbed at these moments). Success beckons, but can he overlook the moral consequences of the things his employers do?
Scatter-gun satire is mixed in with some not-especially-profound commentary on the nature of American society and economics; luckily the film is filled with enough energy and ideas to stay interesting and entertaining throughout. Comes a bit unravelled towards the end, but still features some of the funniest, most provocative scenes in recent memory. Very good performances from Stanfield and Hammer in particular. A passionate, vibrant, very inventive film.

Love in a good form
I loved the book that this movie is based on so, so much. It was one of the best books that I read in 2018 along with it's sequel Leah on the Offbeat. And this was one of the best movies that I saw in 2018. The acting is superb and it's so relevant to today's society and culture with the pop culture references of Harry Potter, Brendon Urie, and even a Hamilton Easter Egg which I enjoyed. It also touches your heart and has a lot of themes to do with family at the very core and learning to let people see you for who you really are

Forget the hype and controversy, and look at what's on the screen
Alot has been said about the storyline, the meaning, and the depiction of mental health and society, but this really overlooks a truly phenomenal piece of acting from Joaquin Phoenix, who is always value and exciting to watch. It's a seriously impressive turn from an actor already hugely respected, but in this he really does something special. From his contorted physicality, to his powerful striding, his smile behind broken eyes, moments of inspired spontaneity that in other films just wouldn't work, he creates a character that is heartbreaking, terrifying, and utterly human. Throw in some of the best cinematography you'll see in a long time, and a sombre score throughout, and this film becomes an absolutely astonishing piece of work.

Like a mash up of ‘Falling Down’ and ‘ The King Of Comedy’ this take on the Joker origin story was hugely satisfying and should be praised for doing something different and very un-comic book with the material . I could see where the story was going and wasn’t hugely surprised by how it ended , but the journey there..WOW. Joaquin Phoenix is simply outstanding as Arthur Fleck/Joker and if there is any justice in the world should surely be showered with awards for his mesmerising and twisted performance. Like Michael Douglas in ‘Falling Down’ you know he’s supposed to be “the bad guy” but you can’t help but sympathise with him after the shitty hand society has dealt him. Solid support also comes from Robert DeNiro in a small but memorable role. Highly recommended.
A Creepy Psychological Film
I am truly becoming a fan of this director's work. This film although labeled as horror does not rely on the typical jump scares and gimmicks of many modern day horror films. Rather he thinks out of the box, creating a whole new kind of horror that focuses on the mind, the psychology of the human person.
This film takes a look at not only the dark psychology of the human mind but the dark workings of society. I wont spoil anything for those yet to watch it but this film will leave you unnerved in a new light, making you think a little bit deeper but only if you really want to. Either way you have a truly enjoyable twisted film.
