It flows well and captures some of the magic of paris post ww1.
Nostalgia for the great age of train travel.
Beautiful sets, interesting and well developed characters and a nicely flowing plot line
I waited a long time to see this film as whenever it was on tv I missed it, however im not disappointed having now seen it from start to finish.
Its a beautiful storyline and the portrayal of all the characters were great. Set in Paris it captures a little of the magic and nostalgia of the time with references to life and society after ww1.
Asa was fantastic as Hugo and having seen him in Miss peregrines home for peculiar children he continues to grow as an actor. I would definitely see this film again and can be quite confident it'll appeal to audiences of all ages.

In a realm where toxic mist sweeps the lands and magic is forbidden, all Bleak wants is a cure for her power.

Still grieving the death of her guardian and dangerously self-medicating with alcohol, Bleak is snatched from her home by the Commander of the King's Army and summoned to the capital. But the king isn't the only one interested in Bleak's powers.

The leader of an infamous society of warriors, the Valia Kindred, lays claim to her as well, and Bleak finds herself in the middle of a much bigger battle than she anticipated.

Loved it

I don't often give 5 stars but I really enjoyed this book. Every character has something different to bring. It leaves you wanting so much more!!
I'm excited to see what other powers Bleak has, also they are all shrouded in mystery. The most is intriguing too.

The story continues...
People are beginning to get used to life after The Doom. Most have adapted and built communities. Others, like New Hope, have gone beyond that , and are helping to rescue other Uncannys and slaves who have been captured by the Purity Warriors or Raiders, before they are put to death.
Fallon Swift has now reached the age where Mallick has come to collect her and begin her training. The training to help her become The One. This book is largely about that training, interspersed with news from New Hope. It's all really interesting , seeing how their society has developed. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't wait to see how this all pans out: Light Uncannys (Fallon is one of these) against Dark Uncannys, Purity Warriors and Raiders. They certainly have their work cut out for them.
There's loads of myth and legend in this - great stuff!!

I guess I just didn't get it.
I know I'm in the extreme minority here, but I was just not a fan of this movie. It was super bleak, and I grew bored fairly quickly. I know, it was supposedly a commentary on society & mental health/illness blah blah blah, and I'm not sure what this says about me, but it did absolutely nothing for me. Phoenix's performance, which everyone and his brother is applauding (and, apparently, awarding - see last week's Golden Globes), was just ok in my opinion. Then again, Phoenix as an actor in general is just ok in my opinion.

Gotham was super seedy, as Gotham should be, and the Wayne name was only invoked once or twice (both Bruce & Thomas) - and that's where any connection to the DCU ends. And that's really fine, since I have zero desire to see this Joker again.
