Characters with different personalities
I picked this book up due to some friends who said it was good. I didn't think much about it until the story sucked me in. I really enjoyed the take the author had on the Heaven versus Hell aspect and how it affects humanity. This book had me wanting to finish it in one sitting. I enjoyed how Brielle and Lincoln seemed to be at each other's throat constantly. Brielle and Shea were my favorite character duos. I found it inspiring on how much Brielle was willing to risk, not just to ensure her freedom but to protect those she cared about. This book held suspense, romance, comedy and lots of action. I found it hard to put down and even more upsetting when my Kindle died. I definitely recommend it to everyone.

If I could kiss Ingrid Hahn I would! There are legitimately no words to describe how happy her hero made me in this novel. Despite some of his stupid actions due to his hurt pride, it was refreshing to find a male in a historical romance put faith in his wife and defend her. Not because he is in love with her or because she his wife, but because he truly believes the opposing party was wrong. Seriously. Bless you Hahn.

But moving on, I enjoyed this novel as a whole. There were certain things that aggravated me like the male lead not being able to see past his hurt pride at times. But their love can naturally rather the forced. It was a delight to read and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

3.5 stars. I have read this book multiple times although it has been a while. I still enjoy the characters although the love aspect is a little trite to me. Kelsey is a great character full of emotion if a little naive and stubborn. Yes, there are somethings that happen too easily for her and she is a bit more go with the flow than one would really expect however it doesnt distract from the whole of the story. As a world building book i found it quite enjoyable and a pleasant read. Even if romance isn't your thing (it's not mine) the cross-cultural mythology is fantastic, literary licencing or not. Also some of the side characters are a little more than stereotypes which is a reason for the half star. The imagery is wonderful.

"Dear Katniss Everdeen,

I desperately want to be like you ..."

So might read the opening words of my (imaginary) letter written by the protaganist of this series to the protaganist of the (more famous) Hunger Games series, as there are (more than) a few similarities in common: both novels are set in a dystopian future, both feature a female protaganist, both have some PG-rated romance thrown in, and both deal with themes of family.

Actually, on second thoughts: maybe I'm being a bit unfair on Tris Prior - if this novel had come along first (instead of [b:The Hunger Games|2767052|The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)|Suzanne Collins|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1358275334s/2767052.jpg|2792775]), my imaginary letter may well have started with:

"Dear Tris Prior

I desperately want to be like you ..."

Emilia Clarke
Not a traditional Rom-Com
Heart Warming festive film
I'm not particularly a fan of festive films but I'd seen most other stuff out so gave this a whirl with an open mind. It was a pleasant surprise a mix of Bridget Jones diary type humour to start with and a few good laughs throughout. The romance side is OK and Emilia Clarke is on form as a helpless Londoner down on her luck and feeling sorry for herself. Until she meets Tom who improves her outlook on life.
I figured out what was going on before the big reveal, which is why I think some people probably didn't like it. Overall I found it a heartwarming film that was fun and festive without being overly cheesey. So check it out even if you normally avoid Christmas films.

Interesting and funny
I had to do a double take when I first saw a recommendation to read this book - a factual non-fiction book written by a comedian isn't something you hear about every day. But it's actually a fun and hugely interesting read.

There's a great balance in this between facts, data and laughs, and there are some very clever insights in this into modern dating and romance. It was also interesting to read about dating in other foreign cities that I didn't know much about. Aziz is a relatively endearing author, coming across as rather friendly and inviting and you get the feeling that he really cares about the subject matter. There's a lot of truth in this book and whilst I don't think anything in this is massively groundbreaking, it's still an insightful and entertaining read.
