The story is quite engaging, and the casting is absolutely spot on.
If you watched the Mortal Kombat web series (which, if you're a fan of the game, I'd highly recommend), then this is an excellent continuation of it, but it's just as accessible for newbies.
Don't expect big things, but if you want a bit of martial arts fun, with some humour and mysticism thrown in, this'll be right up your alley.
