Despite the price tag, I took the plunge on this one. I own the first one and thoroughly enjoyed it, but the lengthy rules put quite a few people off that I was playing with. If you have the patience, then once you’ve learnt the rules then he game goes a lot quicker. This particular edition attracted me as the app makes learning the rules a lot easier. Ive played the shorter adventure twice already and i am keen to do the longer ones if i can get the people to play, although I’m pretty sure you can actually play 1 player. The figures in the game look amazing and all the house/scene tiles are nicely illustrated.
The downside for me is that the longer adventures seem to take a LOT longer than it states on the app which usually leads to it overrunning and a non-completion of the game. When we went to return to the game, the app had deleted where we were, which was frustrating. The app sometimes crashed and reset, but in general it worked smoothly. But saying that, the app really encourages players who aren’t as into board games as I am, meaning I could enlist more players at Christmas time XD.

LeftSideCut (3776 KP) rated American Horror Story - Season 1 in TV

American Horror Story - Season 1
American Horror Story - Season 1

The start of something weird and (sometimes) wonderful
I recently convinced my partner to watch Game of Thrones (she loved it in case you were worried) and the deal was, when we were done with GoT, we would watch one of her favourite shows - American Horror Story.

As we sat down to watch the first season (often referred to as Murder House) of this anthology style series, I wasn't too sure what to expect, but I ended up really enjoying our time with the Harmons.

The season has a suitably creepy tone throughout, and a plot line that keeps you in the dark with what happens throughout, and a pretty impressive amount of violence and horror effects.

The huge positive about this show though is obviously the ensemble cast.
Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Frances Conroy, and Jessica Lange in particular all carve in some really memorable parts to the overall series.
Sarah Paulson doesn't star too much in season 1, but her short time is a nice taster for the important roles she will play moving forwards.

The overall tone can be campy and hammy at times, but that balance throughout Murder House is pretty good.
We ended up watching the whole season in a couple of nights, and I'm glad that I let AHS into my viewing life 👍

Amy Norman (1048 KP) rated Dead to Me in TV

Dead to Me
2019 | Drama, Mystery
I 'accidentally' watched Season 1 in a day, and have just done the same with Season 2 😬

I put Season 1 on as a whim, and it was not what I expected at all, I was pleasantly surprised.

It has the witty gritty humour of older programs like 'Dexter', it touches on some emotional subjects but I wouldn't say it will bring you to tears.
It is more slice of life, as it touches on those subjects with a dark humour you will find yourself relating to.

It was refreshing to see a strong female lead cast, where it just felt like the norm, sometimes programs can push that agenda a bit too hard.
The balance of the two female leads is perfect in their oddly formed symbiotic relationship, and felt a bit closer to reality than other false female friendships you see on TV.

The way the story unfolds is brilliant, and well paced. You will feel those 'oh no' moments, and wonder what will happen next with a sense of dread.
Prepare for almost each episode to be a cliff hanger, or WTF just happened, which will draw you into the next episode.

'Dead to Me' is certainly not what you think it is going to be, and is definitely worth a watch.

P.S. it also makes great use of swearing 😅

good but not great.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

You know sometimes, you just need a book you can read, and not really pay much attention to? One that doesn't tax the brain too much?

This is why I enjoyed this book. It was just what I needed after a particularly difficult day at work. I started it, and then I was done.

It's a really good book, but one that didn't blow me away.

I did enjoy the speed that things moved for Lissa and Cam. Usually, that would be a negative, but I think for these two, who have known each other forever, it was probably the best thing for them.

Some attention to the language used would have been good. At points it refers to certain parts of the male anatomy in the vernacular, slang and then, for some reason, it switches to the proper name for it. Kinda threw me, that.

It does get a bit steamy, but while it's hot, it's not a lot. If that makes any sense!

I liked that who I thought was the stalker, wasn't and I love being kept on my toes for that!

I liked it, but I didn't love it.

3 good solid stars
