Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated Happy Utopia Day, Joe McCarthy in Books
Jan 12, 2018
[Happy Utopia Day, Joe McCarthy] by [J.T. Lundy] was a fast paced, semi absurdist spy thriller. The very unlikely hero of Chris Thompson is seen as a typical everyman who wants excitement until he realizes what that may cost him.
The characters [Lundy] creates are entertaining as are the situations they get in. It made me laugh out loud but also think about a lot of things. A book that can be entertaining and thought provoking is truly a gem.

Without ideas
So this latest Amazon original film has just been released amid quite a bit of advertising. Starring Michael B Jordan it looked like a big budget project with a mix of action and thriller. While it does have some entertaining scenes overall it feels less than the sum of its parts. Almost like ideas and plots from several different spy action films. Rather by the numbers, an ok effort but nothing original.

Well done
I've always like Vince Flynn's books. His character Mitch Rapp is a great one. This movie portrayed him very well- little bit of a hothead but a really badass agent. Michael Keaton gave a great performance as Rapp's trainer/partner. If you like political-spy- action/thrillers, this is one for you. Plenty of cool action sequences, a smooth plotline and great cinematography. I personally hope to see more of Flynn's books made into films. Worth a watch!

David McK (3557 KP) rated The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018) in Movies

I expected more from this film.
I really did.
Starring Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon with the former as a woman who discovers her ex-boyfriend is a spy and the latter her best friend, this is meant to be a comedy/action film, but rarely delivers on either: I didn't find the (supposed to be) funny bits all that amusing, while the action bits seemed to belong to a different film entirely: one that had a hard R rating, perhaps.

Leah (: (569 KP) rated The Eagle (Spy Girl book 2) in Books
Jul 12, 2018
Book 2 in the Spy Girl series is just as fast paced and action packed as the first.
The format of the book is very similar to the first, the mission takes place over about 5 days. Also similar is that the book concludes the mission Huntley was on, however it still leaves many unanswered questions about her life and identity.
I enjoyed this book just as much as the first as we got to know the characters better and see more of their glamorous lives.

Tom Turner (388 KP) rated The Traitor Queen (Traitor Spy Trilogy, #3) in Books
Apr 30, 2021
As with all the books in both the Black Magician and Traitor Spy series' this was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I can't help feeling that there may be more books to come from Canavan set in this particular works because there were things I felt were either let open for a new series or say up ready for one too. Now she's just finished the Millennium Rule series, native maybe we will see her return to the Guild soon. If she does, I'll definitely be reading!
