"Like Lynch, I chose to go with another pair of career milestones. Blood Simple put the Coen brothers (and cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld) on the map with their unique visual style and storytelling and remains one of the greatest film debuts ever. And Llewyn Davis shows that even three decades later, Joel and Ethan can still top themselves."

I'm giving this one up; a DNF. I didn't like the style or the storyline. I couldn't gel with it and I found it really bizarre that Harlowe wasn't scared of the vampire. Any normal person would be whether they have a fascination with Ireland and vampires or not. Just too strange for my liking, I'm afraid.

"Marvin Gaye is the first person who taught me to write from a place of experience and talk about what was right in front of me. And his style of background vocal production is something that I listen to all of the time for inspiration. My favorites are 'Flying High in a Friendly Sky' and 'Wholy Holy.'"

"Wes Anderson shines here with his own style, sense of humor, and great use of music. A killer cast. The scene where Gene Hackman and Anjelica Huston are arguing on the street has so much underlying love in it. I’ve never seen anything like that between two actors—saying one thing and creating the opposite feeling."

"There were a number of key films that taught me that great and startling cinema could come from outside Europe and away from Hollywood. I found Touki bouki (with its anarchic, vigorous style, brilliant colors and sounds, and charismatic heroine) completely surprising when I first saw it—and, more generally, it stands for the eye-opening cinema of Senegal."

With a style that floats like a cloud in the spring sky, Ondaatje brings us yet another beautiful piece of writing. The story of a boy traveling by ship from Sri Lanka to England. Have we found another Ondaatje? J.R. Crook's debut novel might just remind you of his style, but is ultimately unique. The brevity of the book does nothing if not emphasize the power of the prose and impact of its meaning. You can read my review here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2015/04/08/a-dream-within-a-dream/

Not his finest work but way better than some books out there
I'm a big fan of Sade and have heard good things about Justine. I am however finding it kind of full, I'm half way through it, the style of speech albeit accurate for the time can be tough to follow, very philosophical in places.
