Suswatibasu (1701 KP) rated Phantoms in Books

Flimsy story, almost comedic
While this story was extremely engaging for its genre and content, it started off with the mystery of a psychological thriller and ended up becoming like a 1970's hammer horror. It couldn't hold itself in the end and the description of the "thing" reminded me of a Sam Raimi style boring gorefest. A bit of a disappointment after 14 hours of listening.

It’s the classic on-rails shooter with style, and all the extras from each iteration since the original. It’s also about half the cost of its release back in the day,I would have gladly paid $50 to have this in my Steam library.

Great fun!
Absolutely love the concept behind black mirror bandersnatch with a choose-your-own-adventure style viewing!
The story itself was very entertaining, and just as my husband and I begin to ask how does this movie ever end? It did!
We will definitely be watching again to see more of the alternate endings! The novelty should take us through at least 2 more rewatchings

graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated The Trouble With Magic (A Bewitching Mystery, #1) in Books
Feb 15, 2019
A well-written, engaging mystery with a protagonist, Maggie O'Neill, I (mostly) connected with and a plot nicely developed. The author did a good job setting up the series while maintaining the mystery within and developing Maggie and her quirks. Easy to read and smartly paced, with an engaging writing style, I'll definitely be picking up the next book in the series, if not all of them.

Still not sure about this one, the Sci-fi is sound and action is plentiful, however Jodie foster I found to be a poor baddie and punching above her weight, Sharlto Copley actually saves this one from petrol station reduced bin mediocraty for me, Neill Blomkamp's direction is razor sharp and in keeping with his usual style, not one I return to rewatch often.

An entertaining if fairly average heist action film. It features a pretty decent line up of actors with rappers T.I. and Chris Brown included. It tries to be very cool, slick but it lacks the style and quality of Heat or Ocean's Eleven. Top marks for trying to compete with those and if you like films along those lines then you should enjoy this as well.

Great Characters
I read this first in spanish, didn't like it at all, so after Reading Laini Taylor's Strange the Dreamer and absolutely loving it, I decided to give this one another try this time in english, and that was the best desision I ever had. The writing style is gorgeus, the story it's original and I absolutely love the characters, specially Zuze.

Nikki Sands takes a new job at a Napa Valley winery and finds a dead body on her first day. The plot was entertaining until the weak ending, but none of the characters came alive for me. And the writing style was weak as well.

Creepy Horror
This is a a very good Thai horror film along the lines of The Eye, The Grudge, Ring. This has also been remade this year into a US version. A lot of the scares and imagery is similar to the other films mentioned, but it's a good story and has some jumpy bits. If you like these style of horrors you won't be be disappointed!

One of my favorite shows, and one of the few that I will rewatch. I normally hate rewatching, rereading, and replaying most things. I do feel like this is one of those things that you either love or hate, and it isn't for everyone. But, I loved the style of this show. I thought it was very funny, and I grew attached to many of the characters.
