I loved the second instalment it’s hitting up and tempers are flaring! Bolryder has this way of getting so much story into such a small book. I love this style it’s fast paced and hot!

Utterly unlikeable
Whilst Sally Rooney’s second novel Normal People was fairly likeable, I’m afraid to say that this doesn’t apply to this first book. For starters, I find Rooney’s writing and grammatical style very irritating and not what I’d consider to be proper grammar. It’s definitely not the way I was taught and it does get very frustrating reading a book where you can barely define where descriptive text ends and conversation begins.

After a while though you do get used to the writing style, however the main problem with this book is the horrendously unlikeable characters. Frances as the main protagonist is a horrible self absorbed person who doesn’t appear to have any kind thoughts or decent emotions, or any common sense. And sadly the rest of the characters don’t fare much better. It’s a very difficult to like a book when every character is so flawed and valid and self absorbed. The conversations had between some of these people are just jumped up nonsense, and whilst I don’t doubt there are people who have these conversations in real life, I really don’t want to read this in a book. The plot itself isn’t terrible and despite the strange writing style is fairly well written, it’s just a shame it’s spoilt by some terrible characters.

Stellar book!
Thank you so much to Goodreads and T. Greenwood, I was a lucky giveaway winner. I have never read any of Greenwood's books, and I read this voluntarily.

Firstly, this book was absolutely beautiful in the face of a terribly ugly subject matter. For once, the blurbs on the book cover were extremely accurate. I do wish I hadn't Googled the real Sally Horner case when I was 90% done with the book, thinking that everything that was gonna happen had already happened. Don't do that. But even having done that, I sat through the last 10% blubbering in public. I was crying on and off during reading the book, as my heart just ached for this poor girl and the cast of characters that saw her light as they came into her life. I fell in love with Sally, and with all the kind souls that surrounded her as she was being abused. Emotionally engulfing, sad but beautiful, this was one of the most unique reading experiences I have ever had. It felt like a massively upgraded In Cold Blood, with an absolutely gripping writing style that will leave you heartbroken and encouraged at the same time. If you read one book this year, consider making it this one.
