Ross (3284 KP) rated The Adam Buxton Podcast in Podcasts
Jan 4, 2018
I have long been a fan of Adam & Joe on TV and podcast and enjoy Buxton's solo podcast. Here he interviews comedian guests about their work, life and general nonsense. The interviews are very laid back and aren't done just to plug a new release/show. Adam's silly style, but experience and musical knowledge allow the comedy to flow regardless of the guest as there will always be some entertainment he will get out of them.
The advertising gets a little bit irritating at times but this is a necessary evil to make the podcast viable for Buxton.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.
The first few chapters actually annoyed me as they were so totally unbelievable that I nearly gave up but I persevered.
It did get better as the story moved on but remained unbelievable and, at times, laughable by it being so unrealistic but I did like the style and pace of writing and although it took me a while to get to like Zack, I did eventually although his naivety astounded me.
I do feel that this book is aimed at a teenager or young adult but, sadly, it just wasn't for me.

Slightly overhyped with massive plot gaps
I had read a great number of reviews about this eccentric book, but perhaps it was a little too quirky for my liking. There are major similarities with Chuck Palahniuk in terms of the exaggerated style of writing and general shock factor, unfortunately it did not seem to deliver. The characters were undeveloped and there seem to be a lot of loose ends at the end of the book such as what actually happened to B and C? While I can understand the moralistic nature of the story, attacking the usage of food as a means to control people, there seemed to be something missing.

David Beckham's cameo (1 more)
Everything else
Absolutely awful
I think this is possibly the worse film of 2017 so far. Guy Ritchie's usual style just does not work in this setting. Strange, as it worked very well in the Sherlock Holmes films, but it just doesn't work here. The CGI is awful, the casting is terrible (the mage and David Beckham's cameo to name just a couple) and the story itself is just nonsense. The only thing that does work in this film is Charlie Hunnam, who is likeable and charismatic, surprising considering what he's got to work with script and story wise.
Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated Time Ahead (Memoirs on Being, #1) in Books

When I read [Robert King's] [Time Ahead] my first thought was Rip van Winkle. The idea of falling to sleep and waking up in another time. As I read on I realized that I missed the existentialism that was so present in my younger years. Reading this was like a breath of fresh air for me. This may sound odd since it is a dark and depressing view to most people. The style [King] wrote it was truly engaging and there were points when the irony made me laugh out loud. This type of writing is very rare to come across and even more having it done well.
What an interesting book! I guess I could describe myself best as a skpetic...it's not that I don't believe. I've seen the power of prayer works it's magic, but I've also seen many unanswered prayers too. This book made me believe just a little bit more. How can one question the logic & sincerity of a 4 year old?
This book is normally not my style, but it was a wonderful story, made all the more interesting by the fact that it really happened. If nothing else check it out for that purpose alone. You don't have to believe to take something from this book.

Li Hughes (285 KP) rated The Firebird (Slains #2) in Books

This is a sequel to The Winter Sea and follows Anna, the child from that book as the second plot line. I'm kind of torn: I enjoyed Kearsley's writing style as much as in the first book, and it was good to see what had happened "off camera" with Anna. But some of the plot devices really felt like a stretch: like Dickens' multitude of coincidences in A Tale of Two Cities but without the benefit of actually being AToTC. I mean, I know we're talking about psychometry here but still.
Still a quick, fun read, but I simply didn't enjoy it quite as much as The Winter Sea.

Poorly developed characters (2 more)
Poor writing style
Significant plot holes
This book was touted as one of the best new releases not long ago and I finally took the plunge to read it. It was awful. Very likely one of the worst books I've read in my lifetime and one I can say without doubt I will never read again.
The characters are very poorly developed and 2-Dimensional. Never once in my life have a read a book where I actively hoped every character would simply die. Alas, this isn't the case and you suffer through with almost all of them until the bitter and disappointing end.

graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated Angel: After the Fall, Volume 1 in Books
Feb 15, 2019
I have to say, this was bloody awesome! The style was there, the characters, the vibe, it all felt like Angel. Season eight of Buffy feels a bit 'out there' as far as the plot goes but this actually is a continuation of the series, and even though it didn't start right where the show (and action) left off (although, I think volume two of After the Fall does), it did a great job getting back into a groove. Not to mention the artwork is fabulous and the whole look of the book is beautiful. Great job, I hope the others in the series hold up as well.

Gameplay (3 more)
Co-op
Go at own pace
Old school graphics
I loved playing this game before the cooperative element was added and now it's even MORE fun.
It reminds me of old school Farmville for gameplay but the old gameboy Pokemon games for graphic style... Except its had a makeover in colour and a bit of an upgrade.
I can spent hours playing this game as there is always something to be done or going on and I love building and growing the farm.
Have seen they are also due to release a phone version of this game which I will TOTALLY be downloading to play as well!
