Steampunk vamp & werewolf fun

Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series is absolutely brilliant, and this is the first in the series, following the soulless protagonist Alexia Tarrabotti on her adventures with vampires and werewolves in Victorian Britain, with twists and turns aplenty.

I listened to this via Audible, and really enjoyed it... So I'd urge anyone to pick up these books (either physical, or audiobook), as it's extremely enjoyable.

The style of writing is excellent, and Carriger has a wicked sense of humour.

I now need to start the Finishing School series!

Brian Blessed sets up the movie wickedly with his booming and distinctive voice as he opens the film in only Blessed could do, what a way to start a movie bring some fantasy to the genre in true Blessed style and also not forgetting that the lovely Emily Booth as a fantasy warrior woman.

Look out for the Kane Hodder in the movie as well, his portrayal of the character Mr Parsons had me laughing out loud at one point, certainly not the sort of role you’d expect to see Hodder in, but it’s priceless, but there is a little more to his character than you first expect, brilliant.

The Monster Squad – Still Has NARDS!!

The Monster Squad is a movie that may be over 30 years old, damn I feel old now, but it still a brilliant watch, the makeup effects from Stan Winston Studios are amazing and even in today’s standard of overdosing with CGI, the movie has that feeling of realism.

The script from Fred Dekker and Shane Black is also something is directed on to the screen with pure style by Fred Dekker, the comedic elements still work now and I still find myself laughing loudly at many of the moments that the kids come out with some great one-liners.

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I'm still in a reviewing funk of sorts, so I'm playing with style to keep my funk at bay. The funk is a horrible, horrible thing. It's crawled into my life like Medusa and turned my reviewing styles into stone.

Weird analogy. Anyways.
<h3 style="text-align: center;">Three Reasons to Read Why I Loathe Sterling Lane</h3>
Kendall's dynamic with Harper - they're two completely different people who hate each other at a distance by the mere idea of the person. Seeing Kendall and Harper getting thrown together and their friendship develop is personally my favorite part of reading the book.

Enemies to Lovers - I'm usually not a fan of this trope, but I'm not really complaining since Sterling makes Harper less of a stick in the mud as she may appear to be early on in the book.

Admittedly, I'm also watching Boys Over Flowers, which is way too cute and hilarious.

The format - Each chapter is based off a rule Harpers that she came up with from early in her life. I think it gave a better understanding of who Harper was and what kinds of rules she had in her life (that would definitely be something I would want to know if they weren't mentioned).

Overall: Why I Loathe Sterling Lane is a slow book to love, but the story picks up after a few rough patches and is perfect for those who enjoy a love-hate relationship between love interests.
