Overrated
I can see I'm in the minority here, but I really thought this film was overrated.
I love Edgar Wright, but I found myself so bored watching this. Yes it has a killer soundtrack and was very stylish, but I found it to be more style over substance. The main plot was boring and I found a lot of the characters to be a little irritating - Jamie Foxx's character especially. The only highlight was the fabulous Kevin Spacey and the few laughs it managed to raise in far too long a run time.

The story follows special police investigator Makoto, who has the power to read the memories of objects he touches. A gritty hard thriller about a cop killer in London. It has a great well known UK cast, more TV than film though. The only real problem is the story they have to work with, it's a bit weak at best. As a result there is very little suspense in the plot, it also has a fairly low budget feel to it. It's ok for those who like a quick fix of action/thriller with a simple basic story. Others might like a bit more substance in the plot, which could have made it a lot better.

Twisty turny mystery thriller about a quartet of stage magicians, who use their skills and talents to perform a trio of impressive and highly publicised crimes (robbing a bank, draining the account of corrupt individuals etc and redistributing their targets wealth), all the time being chased by both an FBI agent and a magician debunker (ummm ... two separate people, just to be clear).
It's flashy stuff, with little in the way of substance, however, and an ending you can see coming from about a 1/3rd of the way through.
Still might watch the sequel, though!

Very little substance
Tons of style, very little substance
I went into this one really expecting to love it and I did love aspects of it. The character design, sets, and cinematography were great and Rankin/Bass fans will not be disappointed by those things. The music was fine, especially the opening sequence, but also left much to be desired. There weren't really any catchy, unforgettable songs that one usually finds on a Rankin/Bass production.
While there were some funny moments and some parts of the story were interesting, it seems that the film was mostly a series of kooky gags. Don't get me wrong, I love that kind of humor, but it needed to be supported by more plot than was provided. Often it was easy to forget that there even was one. I think Mad Monster Party would have benefited from cutting some scenes to make it a 45 minute special rather than feature length.
I went into this movie wondering why I hadn't heard of it until recently and why it wasn't a Halloween staple of my youth like "Santa Clause is Coming to Town" or "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" were for Christmas. After finishing it I had my answer. It was a little too grown up for children (and maybe a bit too boring) and didn't have enough substance for adults.
While it's hard to recommend this one to anyone I probably will be watching it again. The good parts are good enough to bring me back and the bad isn't bad enough to scare me away (and now I know which scenes to avoid).
I also realize that this has a lot of jokes directed at the readers of Mad Magazine, which I am not. So feel free to prove me wrong about this movie. I really want to love it!

All shock no substance for me
I have a very love-hate relationship with AHS I continue to watch every season but I never actually enjoy it, I feel for the most part they all go for as much shock as they can but no real story because they try and pull everything into ten different directions without actually really getting into anything.
Season 1 for me was the one that did this the most there were so many stories going on and I never really cared about any of them, I kind of just kept watching to see what crazy crap was going to happen next.
