Engaging storyline, ridiculously replayable. (0 more)
Some small glitches occasionally, as many games have. Also the multiplayer gets old quite quickly. (0 more)
A game set 20 years into the zombie apocalypse. You play as Joel, an old time survivor who is given the task of taking Ellie, a seemingly normal teenage girl, across the US. With a great script, some beautiful animation and scenery and a journey showcasing many different sides of a post-apocalyptic world, you get to decide yourself whether zombies or humans make up the real threat.

Heartwarming
It's a little unfortunate that Stronger was released in the same year as the other Boston marathon film, Patriots Day. Whilst the films are as opposite as they can be (one set from the point of view of a cop during the event & the ensuing investigation, whilst this focuses on the life of an injured survivor), I fear that Stronger has been dwarfed by the other bigger film. Which is a shame as this is a very good film in its own right.

This is a character led film, and tells the poignant and harrowing tale of bombing survivor Jeff Bauman. Jake Gyllenhaal excels in this, like he always does when he's given a proper character based story. The rest of the cast too are great and the entire film is just very well done. It doesn't shy away from showing some of Jeff's personal struggles and really is a heartwarming story. Especially when you know there's a happy ending at the end of it. The photos and updates right at the end of the film showing the real Jeff are so uplifting.

Kelsey Tate is blindsided when someone accuses her great-grandmother, a Titanic survivor, of being an impostor. As her world spins out of control, can Kelsey learn the truth in order to save her family's firm? While normally I find the author hard to put down, this one took quite a while to get going. The characters were good and the second half strong, but the first half wasn't up to par.

A different type of Zombie novel
Contains spoilers, click to show
This is the first book in the series following the zombie apocalypse. Seen through the eyes of one lone survivor recording events in his journal as he tries to make it out of an infested London. Have to admit I was a little unsure at first but after the first couple of pages I couldn't put this down. Even in the slower sections it's a great read. If you want to read something a little bit different but still with plenty of Zombies this is the book

Cast Away (2000)
Cast Away (2000)

Modern day Robinson Crusoe tale (from the year 2000, and without a Man Friday) in which Tom Hanks time obsessed FedEx courier Chuck Nolan is the sole survivor of a plane crash somewhere in the Pacific, and finds himself washed ashore on the island of Lian Yu...

(sorry, sorry, that's the name of the island that Oliver Queen spent 5 years on in TVs 'Arrow')

Slightly slow getting started, maybe, and also perhaps a bit on the overlong side. I have to say, however, that Wilson steals all the scenes he's in!

A dark and gritty near future dystopia where a mysterious plague has fallen on mankind, where the slightest contact of bare flesh will cause immediate death for one of those being touched, but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to who lives or dies. On top of that, the survivor also then carries around in their head the persona of the person they killed. This can sometimes cause madness in the survivor, but some can coexist with their new passenger. Of course, with no physical skin-to-skin contact possible, sex is off-limits but brothels survive, with watching, no touching, rules in place. Isolation becomes the means of survival, but with that isolation also comes the end of the human race. That is, until two unlikely allies possibly discover the cause of the plague, and possibly a means to undo it.

The Great Divide is definitely not for the lighthearted. This is a very grim look at humanity and what happens when all means of physical contact is stripped away. It is a violent, sexualized dystopia that Ben Fisher and Adam Markiewicz give us, but it is still a story about the resilience of the human spirit.

Outdated colonial claptrap
I didn't particularly like this book even as a child, especially its overt racist storyline. Robinson Crusoe, an explorer and wanderer, at one point becomes a slave owner, aligning himself with other planters and undertaking a trip to Africa in order to bring back a shipload of slaves. At this point, he survives a storm and a shipwreck and ends up as the sole survivor. Because of the initial plot, I found it difficult to sympathise with his plight. They also speak of cannibalism, addressing others as "savages". It's a colonial tale that has become outdated.

Ingress: The Animation (2018)

Ingress (or Ingress: The Animation) is a 2018 Japanese anime television series based on Niantic's augmented reality mobile game of the same name. The story follows special police investigator Makoto, who has the power to read the memories of objects he touches. While investigating a laboratory explosion that was researching an unknown substance called "XM", he touches the ring of a woman who was the sole survivor of the explosion and sees a horrifying vision that embroils him in a massive conspiracy. @IMDb Movies & TV rates it 8/10, I do the same.

Fun, flirty and emotional

Being a woman heading towards forty this actually resonated with me. It highlights the wants and needs that are ever present and how we can convince ourselves of certain things, along side doing many things at once.
Hadley, our lovely main character, is strong and independent. She's also likeable and a survivor of the well known thing..... heartbreak.
Babe in the Woods is my box of chocolates read, accompanied by a favourite drink and snuggled up on the sofa. Alternatively, gift to a friend so you can have a natter about it over a coffee! It's fun and flirty but with an emotional edge.

I received a free copy of this novel direct from the author in return for an honest review.

The fact that I received it free and from the author in no way influences how I feel about this book ... it was absolutely brilliant and I loved everything about it. It sounds corny but I really couldn't put it down.

It is an exceptionally well told, well written story with really well thought-out characters. It was fast paced from the start with plenty of violence which is graphic but written in such a way as not to be gratuitous.
