I was really looking forward to some swashbuckling fun and good repartée, so when I heard of these books I put the first four on my reading list. After reading the first, I removed the others.

The murder mystery isn't as mysterious as all that, and the delay in solving it relies heavily on D'Artagnan not recognizing someone he'd encountered before. As he is supposed to be very observant and cunning, that doesn't work very well.

I suppose it's time for a re-read of Brust's <i>The Phoenix Guards</i> and <i>Five Hundred Years After</i>. I know I won't be disappointed there!

Believable characters
Plot hooks keep you guessing
This is a series that my husband and myself watched and felt genuine sadness when we reached the end of the last season. We knew of the titular characters from both fiction and history, but STARZ managed to bring them to life in a way that we couldn't help but be drawn to. We would find ourselves trying to figure out the next betrayal or surprising good deed, which famous name would make an appearance, and there was no end of drama to keep us enthralled. A most excellent portrayal of swashbuckling pirates on the high seas, bringing a depth to them beyond the known ship battles for treasure that we all know.

The Nun (2018) shows exactly how you go about kicking off a dark cinematic universe. #Review
While it packs in plenty of atmosphere and creeping dread, apart from a few well-contrived jump scares, it’s not – it has to be said – particularly scary. There’s a great build-up to the very first night spent at the convent but from there it escalates so quickly and so unequivocally supernaturally that our heroes’ decision to remain and investigate without reinforcements is simply absurd. But it’s in that absurdity that “The Nun” reveals its true essence. Not as a bone-chilling, nerve-shredding terrifying horror movie but in a spooky, swashbuckling adventure horror in the mould of 1999’s “The Mummy”. FULL REVIEW: http://bit.ly/CraggusTheNun
