Deborah (162 KP) rated The Elusive Bride (Black Cobra Quartet #2) in Books
Dec 21, 2018
This had all the romance you would expect from a Laurens book, plus enough swashbuckling adventure for Boys Own! Our hero, Gareth must make his way from India back to England by a prescribed route to deliver the scroll he carries to Wolvestone - the one powerful enough to bring down the Black Cobra. Gareth, along with Miss Emily Ensworth, who is also being pursued by the Black Cobra Cult, make their way by land and sea, fighting off cultists, and at one point a rather predatory female!
As the four couriers all leave India as around the same time and arrive back in England at around the same time too the timelines in each book do intersect, so sometimes an event in a previous book hasn't yet happened - you need to get your beain around that one!

Kyera (8 KP) rated Daughter of the Pirate King in Books
Jan 31, 2018
I went into this story knowing only that it featured a lead character who was essentially a female Jack Sparrow. As a huge fan of Pirates of the Caribbean, Captain Jack Sparrow and pirate tales in general – I knew this was a book for me and was glad that I didn’t know more about it than that. There as aspects, allegiances, and secrets about our characters that might be spoiled by reading a synopsis and were better to discover on our own organically while reading the book.
The plot was unexpected and enjoyable from start to finish and left me wanting more. It can easily and satisfyingly be read by itself but also leaves plenty of room to continue to the storyline. (Thankfully there is at least one more book in this series, but unfortunately, it is not out yet.)
Highly recommended read for those who enjoy adventure books with a strong female lead and just a dash of debauchery.

Justin Taylor (59 KP) rated Treasure Planet (2002) in Movies

If I had to pick one bad about the movie is that it's a pretty generic plot and the story is pretty much more or less the same plot of treasure island

David McK (3485 KP) rated The Three Musketeers in Books
Jan 18, 2020
And, truth be told, I still haven't actually read it.
You might be wondering, then, why I'm reviewing it?
Because, thanks to a well-known Amazon-owned subsidiary, I've now listened to it!
The subject of a fair-few movies over the years (most noticeably the 1970s Michael York duo The Three/Four Musketeers), I have to admit to being somewhat surprised at just how closely that Michael York fronted film actually sticks to the source material, with the first half of the novel (The Queens Diamonds) virtually transposed straight to the screen. And, as a result, I found this portion not really all that engaging, perhaps due to (over)familiarity.
However, things picked up once we got past the halfway point, and into more unfamiliar territory, before (roughly) the final third of the novel, which obviously served as the inspiration for The Four Musketeers (where d'Artagnan actually becomes one such).
Full of swashbuckling romance and acts of derring do, this - like many other classics - is one of those novels that you read simply so that you can say you've read it!
