If Buffy grew up and moved to the wild west
I stumbled across this show on Netflix and almost immediately fell in love.

Wynonna Earp is a hard drinking, hard living 27 year old. She's the black sheep and the town fuck-up. She's spent years avoiding her family and her responsibilities, but when she finally returns to her home town of Purgatory, she finds that she can't outrun the family curse.

Now, if she ever hopes to break the curse and save her family, she must battle the seventy seven revenants of the Ghost River Triangle and send them back to hell. But at least she doesn't have to do it alone.

If you've been dying to find an at least decently written fantasy/supernatural TV show with witty dialogue and compelling relationships, this one is definitely for you.

Also if you're like me and will watch anything that has adorable and fully fleshed out lesbian relationships, this one is also for you. Wynonna's younger sister Wavery and the dashing town deputy are SO GAY in the BEST possible way.

It's a good show using the books as INSPIRATION
People need to realize that TV shows/movies are not the books on screen.
It uses the book as inspiration and makes its own world.

I loved Anne of Green Gables - all of them! I watch the original screen adaption and enjoyed it, so when I heard of Anne with an "E" I jumped to watch it.

It's different - I will give you that, but for me, it just gave me something I loved but more of it! It gave me a new look into that world. It helped me learn about Anne in a new way - which is honestly believable to me.

So yes, if you are expecting exactly what happens in the book, you'll be a little disappointed in parts, because that isn't what movies and books are.

The creator of this show took these books, took that foundation, and let their imagination run wild. And I love it!

In the early-00s (well, 2001 - 2011), there was a TV show called 'Smallville' aka - and unofficially - also known as 'Superman: The Teenage Years', in which a large part of the early runs were to do with Clark Kent discovering his powers.

Now, take the same basic idea - that of an alien developing powers on Earth, and change it slightly so that there's nine of them, all teenagers growing up seperately, all refugees from a planet that has itself been invaded/destroyed by *other* aliens and most with their own flesh-and-blood protector with them, and you more or less have the plot for this.

I'd seen the movie a while back and, while it wasn't great, I still thought I would give the source material a shot.

It's not great either.

I don't know whether it the insipid romance between the central characters of John and Sarah, the clunky dialogue or the fact that the writer seems to follow a 'tell, don't show' method of writing (instead of the opposite), but this just did not do it for me at all :-(

The Muppets.

I remember. as a kid, watching 'The Muppet Babies' and even the likes of 'The Muppets Christmas Carol' or 'The Muppets Treasure Island', but I never actually saw the original tv show.

The Muppets Tonight (late 90s, I believe), yes.

The original show?

Slightly before my time.

Anyway, this - unlike Treasure Island or Christmas Carol - is an original plot, following Jason Segal character of Gary and his (muppet) brother Walter, as they travel - alongside Gary's long-term girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) on their 10th anniversary - to L.A., home of the Muppets, and uncover a conspiracy to purchase and knockdown the old Muppet Theatre so a rich businessman can get to the oil underneath.

Only thing stopping it?

A new Muppet telethon, if Kermit can get the gang back together and raise the funds before midnight.

So a fairly formulaic plot, but that's really not why anyone would be watching this: more for the family-friendly good times, and the odd breaking of the 4th wall.
