Really good plot
World building and exploration of said world
Well I expected something different but I'll take this
I loved this book. I got my hands on an arc copy and my god am I happy. From the blurb I expected some sort of girl power book which put me off a bit but there was no where near as mich as that as I thought. The plot didn't rely at all on a drive of proving girl power as the characters actually stood on their own and had their own motives and drives. I loved their journey through the lands and meeting the sea witches,I only wish there was more or a sequel but there's been no whispers of it and that severely upsets me.

Mr. Darcy - need I say more? (1 more)
I am sure if there were a class on romance, this would be required watching / reading
Romance is not dead
This story makes me swoon and offers reassurance that romance is not dead. Even if you are not a fan of Jane Austen, this movie is beautiful. The scenery makes me ache to go to England and take in the countryside. The costumes are authentic and the score really adds to the music. But, above all, is the story of the Bennett Family. The Bennett's need to marry off their five girls and hopefully to wealthy men. Simple right? Not really. Mrs. Bennett and three of her daughters are.... embarrassing. They gossip, are loud and silly. Finally, there is good news on the horizon for the Bennett's, a new wealthy man has moved into the county.
MelanieTheresa (997 KP) rated Weezer (Teal Album) by Weezer in Music

I've loved Weezer forever, so I was probably predisposed to love this album. It's an excellent cover album, filled with very loyal covers of some pretty iconic songs. I appreciate the fact that they stayed loyal to the original songs, rather than subjecting us to whatever their interpretation of those songs would be. Absolutely worth a listen.
Best: Africa, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Take On Me, No Scrubs
Meh: Mr. Blue Sky, Billie Jean

This is a dark tale of kidnap and torture that starts with the victim's escape but goes on to build into a disturbing thriller.
I liked the darkness but the story style wasn't for me. Too often we had cliff-hanger endings to characters POV "chapters" for them to take too long resolve I felt strung along.
If you enjoy a dark thriller give this ago.
Thanks to NetGalley the author and published for the ARC

Great take on an Urban Myth
A really excellent read. Being a fan of King, Herbert, Masterton, Barker etc, I do like a good horror and this almost ticks all the boxes for me. The idea behind the story is genius and sets its basis on the Jack the Ripper myth. Now imagine that a boy witnessed him murder, followed him, got caught by him, kidnapped by him and taken to America, with me so far? Now also imagine said boy decides to track down this killer and that is basically what the book is about. With it being set in the eighteen hundreds it makes clever use of the fact that there were no computers to help him, no internet to search, no mobile telephone to aid him. This is one boy (at the start) and his quest to track down and kill a killer. The book has more than this to offer though. The best way i can describe it is The Hardy Boys meets Around the World in 80 days :) Worth a read and definitely a different take on the whole Jack the Ripper myth :)
ClareR (5686 KP) rated Nightcrawling in Books
Aug 27, 2022 (Updated Aug 27, 2022)
This is a firm five star read for me. It’s visceral, heartbreaking and beautifully written.
Kiara, 17 years old, gets drawn in to prostitution and is picked up by a group of corrupt cops who like to ‘invite’ young sex workers to their parties. And a lot of these girls are too young. Kiara included.
It really angered me that people who were supposed to take care of and protect people, young black girls included, should take advantage and blackmail them.
Kiara and her neighbours son Trevor, live in poverty. Kiara has stopped going to school, so has no qualifications and no one will employ her. Trevor’s mother goes missing for days at a time, and Kiara sees children's services as a last resort, wholly unacceptable. So to feed them and to pay the rent, she walks the streets, sells sex, and does what the cops want her to do. These men made me feel quite murderous, actually.
Nightcrawling made me feel emotionally exhausted, but I had to read every page. It’s a story that drags you in, grabs your attention, and doesn’t let go until the last page. The fact that it’s based on a true story makes it even more saddening.
If you’re up for a challenge, I’d recommend this. It deserves its place on the Booker Prize long list.
Many thanks to The Pigeonhole.
