Exceptional
I'm a super fan of Stephen King, but this is a force to be reckoned with.
The characters are so well written, that you empathise and feel the fear with them.
There's so many different characters and sub stories within the novel that you never see in any adaptation.
It's a really long book, and it did take me a while to really get engrossed in it, but it's so worth it.
It's marvellous, greatest book I've ever read, it's a real treat. I did have to read it with the light on.

Better than the film
I really hate how difficult I find it to separate a book and the film adaptation. Whilst I didn't love the Birdbox film, i thought it was alright, however reading this book has really made me reconsider.
The book and film plots are similar, but the book seems a lot darker and creepier. The character of Malorie is different, nicer even but I dont think she is very well developed in this. This was a good book and an interesting take on the end of the world scenario, I just wish I'd read this before watching the film.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2171 KP) rated How to Host a Killer Party (Party Planning, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Presley Parker's party planning business might finally be entering the big leagues when she is asked to host the mayor's surprise wedding on Alcatraz. But things take a turn for the worse when the bride to be storms off only to turn up dead and the police want to talk to Presley. I found the pacing in the middle a bit uneven, but a great beginning and climax coupled with warm characters make me want to read more.

Dean (6925 KP) rated Skyline (2010) in Movies
Feb 16, 2018
The trailer attracted me to see this a bit like the pretty blue lights in the film, despite the bad reviews. It was far from terrible, but I understand why most people didn't like it. I was hoping for something of a modern take on Independence day. In truth this only feels like one long drawn out segment of an alien invasion film. The SFX are pretty darn good, the cast was ok although hard to picture Donald Faison in anything but Scrubs. Then it ended abruptly in a rather strange way?! Let's hope the sequel feels more like a whole film.

Mothergamer (1536 KP) rated Animal Crossing: New Horizons in Video Games
Jun 22, 2021
I finally got a chance to play Animal Crossing New Horizons. I have loved Animal Crossing since the Gamecube so it was great to be able to check this one out. There is a lot to do and it's real time so you can take your time with each thing. Being able to visit my friends on their islands and having them come visit me was a lot of fun. The crafting aspect of Animal Crossing is great too and adds an extra layer to the game. Mothergamer (1536 KP) rated Mortal Kombat (2021) in Movies
Jul 19, 2021
Lots of great action and yes it's a bit light on the story, but it's not completely terrible. It's a fun popcorn movie and if you're a fan of the Mortal Kombat games like me, it's not a bad ride. I did love Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion because he's a really talented actor and he made the role work for him. It was disappointing that there's some characters missing like Johnny Cage, but maybe we'll get to see him in the sequel. If you take it for what it is, pure entertainment it's a good film.
