Miki Berenyi was the lead singer of the 90’s band Lush, and boy does she have a story to tell. From a troubled upbringing with her Hungarian refugee father and Japanese actress mother, to her success and hard work (and it sounds really hard!) in Lush, Miki tells it all exactly as she remembers it. There are no holds barred - and it reads just like she’s speaking directly to you. I loved her writing style: easy to read and unputdownable, basically.
This is one of those books that may well have passed me by, if not for The Pigeonhole (it’s a reading app that serialises books - you should check it out!), and I’m so glad I got the chance to read it.

The fact that it is told from the perspective of a reproductive servant/slave makes it all the better. More interesting and engaging. It contains just the right amount of backstory sprinkled throughout to help keep you following but still keep you wondering.
As for the controversial ending, it is shocking causing an emotional roller-coaster ride. It is definitely a great contrast as opposed to listening to Offred tell the story. I would have liked a few more questions answered, yet that also is what allows for great discussion and wonderment.

I don’t mean for it to sound so harsh, but honestly, if Mare hadn’t been captured, we wouldn’t have been able to see all the character development that happens throughout King’s Cage.
Mare kind of breaks down and then builds herself back up. As horrible as it sounds, I loved seeing her devolve into this weak girl because that’s exactly what should happen to someone in her situation. Aveyard didn’t sugarcoat the conditions which Mare lived in while being kept a prisoner. It made it realistic. I also liked watching Mare learn more about her ability. Her use of lightning is more powerful than she realized, and it was cool seeing what she’s really capable of." I don't want to tell you anymore, as it's something you need to experience for yourself. The story gets real deep & builds to an exciting ending. Yes, the game is short, but you'll probably replay it, if only to find the hidden orbs. Play it, play it, play it. NOW!
