My Hurricane by J.A. Owenby
My Hurricane is the short story of what Walker's life was like before he met Lacey. When we first meet him, he is still with Brittany and certainly not the person we know from the other books. However, things happen which change him, and we as the reader are with him every step of the way.

I loved how he changed from Mr Fly High Party Boy into someone to be relied upon, not only by his family but also the school. Now, I've already read the three full-length novels in The Truth series, so knowing what I know now only makes my heart ache for Walker even more.

Excellently written, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow, I found this book to be outstanding. Giving just enough for you to learn about Walker, whilst leaving you wanting more.

Get this novella, and then lose yourself in The Truth series. I can promise you won't regret it. Highly recommended by me.

It's surprisingly unsettling to listen to a man playing himself at snooker
On the surface, there is no comedy in this podcast. it really is a man commentating on himself playing snooker against another version of himself in his cluttered basement. Both players take on slightly different characteristics and playing style but otherwise seem pretty well matched (both quite poor).
The snooker itself is by the by, the real hook here is how Herring speaks when he is concentrating on playing and trying to commentate.
The moments that cause a laugh are when he (the referee) can't remember the rules, or whose turn it is, or when one of the players knocks the ironing board over etc. Or when Herring's natural comedic mind makes a comment or connection when he's concentrating and he blurts something out.
I love how when interviewing himself he doesn't put on a different voice, or even pause before the other "me" starts speaking.
Not his funniest work, but then he never said it would be a comedy podcast. Now at frame number 82, he seems to be sticking to his promise to keep doing it until nobody downloads it any more.

Fantastic debut
Contains spoilers, click to show
A wonderful debut from C. Robert Cargill. The novel follows the lives of two boys, Ewan and Colby. Both boys have a fantastical journey ahead of them, Ewan is stolen by fairies from his parents at an early age by a specialist child stealing fairy (Dithers) and Colby meets a djinn (Yashar) who agrees to grant him wishes which leads him to see the world.

While sounding at first like a magical fairy story you soon realise the story does carry a certain sadness and darkness. The djinn for example is cursed to only ever grant wishes that end in turmoil. You learn this through small chapters that centre around telling stories about the characters in the book, which I found to be a wonderful way to build chacterisation.

Despite being quite dark the book does well to build on characters enough so that you do find yourself getting attached to them. So not only are the characters well thought through but they bring enough personality and emotion to evoke lots of feeling in the reader.

While I don't promise this book will bring you a happy ending, its hard to put down and will certainly have you wanting to move on to the sequel.

Unusual Night is the second book in The Warrior's Promise series and we continue with Gwen, Wicked, and the rest of the crazy crew. This time, however, the crew becomes bigger thanks to the Goddess. Everyone, meet Thor and his wolves.

One thing I loved about this one is we get to meet Gabriel and find out about Gwen's past through his eyes. Gwen is growing in leaps and bounds in every way possible but is still some eight months away from her Change. Craze is just as wonderful as possible, along with Kayden, Orion, etc. I thought the whole situation with Thor was handled very well and I loved seeing how Gwen affected his pack.

Another long book to get your teeth into, this provided me with hours of entertainment. I am loving how the story is progressing, how the characters are changing, and am looking forward to seeing what the future brings for our main characters. Saying that, there are now a number of characters I want stories for! Absolutely recommended by me.
