Promising but ultimately disappointing
I've loved some of Hugh Howey's other works and I had high hopes for his take on a romantic novel, but sadly this was pretty disappointing. It had promise, with an interesting plot based around a romance taking place in a near future where the sea levels have risen and shells are becoming extinct. Howey writes very well and I can't fault him for that, I just felt he concentrated too much on the predictable romance side than developing the scientific future aspect. The characters too were nothing special, and the whole book just felt very rushed.

Okay but not amazing
I like being able to play whenever I want, but there are a lot of people who either quit or get disconnected. Maybe I don't like this as much because I don't know the people involved, or maybe I just can't get into it. I don't know. It has promise, but I wish the games were bigger. Only playing with 3-5 people and then having 1 or 2 of them quit takes the fun out of it mostly. It's still promising, but definitely not my favorite.

Didn’t live up to its promise
I really wanted to like this movie. I wanted it to be awesome, to make me shiver and look over my own shoulder. But despite three thrilling trailers, I found the back and forth style of narrative to be distracting from the story. I’d have preferred just straight narrative, beginning to end.
Other than that, it was cool that everyone sees something different, but not knowing what they are seeing made the horror less for me. Good try, but it just didn’t quite make it in my book.

I would like to request that people not read the blurb summary of this book that I found on Amazon. It is far too long and detailed for such a concise work of prose. Even if Backman approved of how much of the story they’ve included there, I certainly do not. However, if you want to know my opinion of this beautifully constructed and thought-provoking novella, please read my review here – which will not give away hardly anything of the story, I promise!

Confusing Gorefest
I saw the first five minutes of this on a facebook post and was intrigued by the very suddenly bloody start so I figured I'd give it a chance. Being a fan of horror, I was excited about it. The beginning feeds the promise of gore and progresses quickly, leaving you confused at each turn. Instead of really coming to a conclusion, I feel that the movie left more questions than answers. As the storyline progressed towards the end, it gave off not so subtle Donnie Darko vibes. Where the aforementioned movie gave way with answers and a satisfactory conclusion, Tag seemed to miss the mark in that category. Still would probably watch again.

Erika Kehlet (21 KP) rated Between Good And Evil in Books

I love a mystery that wastes no time with setup and has me in suspense from page 1, and Between Good and Evil did just that. It took a bit to catch on to what was happening in Auburn Notch, but thats not a bad thing. The reader is left to piece things together as the story unfolds just as the characters are, and there is a lot going on. The characters are well formed and the descriptions very detailed. This was a good first installment, and Ill be watching for more Promise Flynn.

Pixar do it again!
A very good and enjoyable film that all ages will love. The story sounded odd at first but it's a very cute film. It has a great 10 minute opening which is nearly silent and quite sad for a Pixar film. Once we get to the old guy getting up out of bed and setting off to fulfill a promise it actually becomes quite funny in places. Definitely one all ages will love. Once again the level of detail in the animation is amazing, they seem to set new levels with each new film!

Nora's Promise by Sedona Hutton
Nora's Promise is the second book by Sedona Hutton I have read, and just like Cloud Whispers, this blew me away.
Our two main characters both have baggage from their pasts, and neither of them can see it immediately. There is attraction, but also a whole load more. Nora and Davey's relationship is a slow-build, which makes it all the more enjoyable.
There is a supernatural element to this story, with the appearance of Pap, and Nora's abilities, so you need to read this with an open mind. Personally, I loved every aspect.
This is a book long enough to get your teeth into, but not too long that it drags. The story is excellently written, with poignant, heartfelt scenes. There were no editing or grammatical issues that I noticed in a story where the pacing was very smooth.
A brilliant second foray into the writings by Sedona Hutton, and I can't wait for AJ's Leap to be released next. Absolutely recommended by me.

Dean (6925 KP) rated BloodRayne (2006) in Movies

Another pretty bad Uwe Boll film, but not his worst! Had a lot of promise with a strong cast and based on a cool vampire hack and slash video game. However this is pretty poor, none of the "stars' give a half decent performance and the fight choreography is very lame compared to most films of today, no energy or passion, very slow. There is a fair bit of blood, a Meat Loaf cameo and half decent CGI and that is it! Stick with Blade!
