Terrible/dangerous messege about suicide
Pretty damn boring.
Hated almost every minute and sends a terrible message to younger people.

Suicide is a very serious problem and this stupid show kind of just glorified it and really sends a message to not only younger people but to anyone struggling with depression that well life sucks no one cares so kill yourself so then people will feel bad.
If you're struggling with depression or have suicidal thoughts please get help from professionals.

Suswatibasu (1703 KP) rated 1984 Nineteen Eighty-Four in Books
Aug 15, 2017
One of the most life-changing books I've read
George Orwell's terrifying dystopian novel is one of those books that has gone down as the all-time top 100 books to read. It explores the idea of "double-think" not too dissimilar to what we currently call the "Post-Truth" era. Written in 1948, Orwell envisioned a world ruled by the Soviet Union in which all information was distorted and monitored to the point that thoughts were also exposed. It is terrifying beyond belief, as the main character Winston Smith attempts to explore his own mind not before facing the infamous Room 101. A really important read for our time.

Joelene Marie (28 KP) rated Only Human (Themis Files #3) in Books

Wow! Sylvain Neuvel has done it again! I was so excited when I was approved for this ARC because I absolutely LOVE these books and Only Human is just as magnificent as the first two. I started reading it earlier this afternoon and finished it at a little after 1am; I couldn't sleep without knowing how it ended!
I'll post a longer review closer to the release date, I need a minute to process all my thoughts on this one. Just know that it is an incredible end to an amazing trilogy!
**Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC!! All opinions are my own.**

Gisell Middleton (189 KP) rated Those People in Books
Aug 12, 2019
This novel was many times funny, though it was not meant to be. The self-absorption and narcissistic nature of most, if not all, the characters make this a sort of parody of the situation. The character development and the clear agenda each one has feels very color-by-numbers and, even though they are one-dimensional, they are very realistic and relatable. The concept is novel although the plot is a bit discombobulated. I enjoyed the thoughts and feelings this book evoked in me perhaps more than the book itself. The exploration into the human condition and how the relationships begin to break down was fascinating.

Deborah (162 KP) rated The Lifted Veil in Books
Dec 21, 2018
The Lifted Veil is a novella or short story by George Eliot. The story is told by Latimer, who has just been told he has not much longer to live, and looks back on the events of his earlier life. What makes this story slightly unusual, at least taking into acount the time it was written, is that Latimer seems to suffer from some sort of illness and this may or may not be related to his ability to read the emotions and/or thoughts of other people. This ability is the lifted veil of the title. It's not a cheery, happy-ending feel-good story, but it is interesting.
