"Truly one of my favorites. I really didn’t know all that much about Tina Turner — other than her music — until I saw that movie. Angela Bassett was fantastic and it really gave me a new appreciation for Tina."

"Like other gifted artists who often bring their best to live performances (the Stones, the Who, Billy Joel, Elton John, Tina Turner), the members of U2 create a palpable chain reaction with the audience. (Tied with Billy Joel’s “The Last Play at Shea” documentary.)"

Rolling Stone's 214th greatest album of all time
Good collection of songs, but not really much of what we think of for Tina Turner. Proud Mary is superb, but I am sure the best known version doesn't include Ike.
Early songs are very soulful, with Tina's voice suppressed quite a lot, more like a soul version of the Carpenters than I had expected.

I found Searching for Tina Turner to be very difficult to read. I was frustrated by the writing. It was unclear and confusing. I could not tell who was saying what, or where the characters were. The writing switched from past tense to present tense and confused me. I didn’t get very far before I had to put it down.

I didn’t particularly like Tina, nor her husband Randall, I don’t agree with divorce, I was frustrated by how Lena was searching for her answers, and I could not get past all of that enough to enjoy this story. Call me biased, but this one just wasn’t for me. As much as I wanted to, I really could not enjoy finish this book.

Rolling Stone's 65th greatest album of all time (489th in the 2020 list)
Superb collection of motown classics. Three full discs of some of the best soul and R&B songs ever made, plus the good old Christmas Gift album (which was also listed by Rolling Stone in its own right, so I listened to the same Xmas album twice in one week in June!). A diverse range of artists included, from Ben E King, Darlene Love, the Ronettes, Ike & Tina Turner and The Righteous Brothers.

"A film that absolutely nails the experience of really wanting to perform – that feeling that you’re weird to do so when you’re not being encouraged – and of music being a brilliant form of escape. Even though I’m not working-class, the story described a world and an attitude to women I knew well. It’s also about finding your identity through music, how you can find your own voice through singing other people’s songs. I used to do that myself as a child, trying to become Tina Turner by singing Private Dancer!"

Death in a Northern Town : Only the dead Die Twice ( book 4)
By Peter Mckeirnon - Writer and Filmmaker
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My name is John Daint. Not too long ago something terrible happened. People began to get sick. So sick that their internal organs systematically failed and they died in the most disgusting ways imaginable. Only they didn’t stay dead and it wasn’t long before the town I once knew became the nightmare my brother had warned me about. This is my journal.

I’m sorry I couldn’t possibly give this any more than the full 5⭐️ I laughed so much and so loud good job my hubby is on nights this week! I need more! More Butty and definitely more 80sDave and his crazy shit!
This is hands down one the F and best British zombie series I’ve ever read bloody hilarious especially if your an 80s baby/child! Tina turner cigarettes it’s all I need to say 😂😂

"Another one of my five favorite films would be Gimme Shelter, by the Maysles brothers. I spent many years making documentary films between my first film and my second film, Blue Valentine, and I learned to really embrace, and be humbled by life, and by telling a story where you’re telling someone else’s story. And there’s something about the Maysles brothers, and especially that movie, where they were able to witness these moments. Especially with Gimme Shelter, you know, these moments of American history — this concert at Altamont that turned into kind of the bad trip of Woodstock. And I love how they frame it with the band, the Stones, watching the footage, watching their memories; this document, this witness to this incredible time in American life — and this crime, this real crime in America. Also, for nothing else than the moment where Mick Jagger has to watch Tina Turner. Again, like watching the Scorsese movie — and the Pasolini movie — their use of music, you know, is to watch a real rock and roll movie in the theater, with that sound. It’s great."

Dead Man Walking ( Death in a Northern Town book 3)
By Pete McKeirnon
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My name is John Diant. Tortured father to a missing teenage girl, friend to a retro 1980s music obsessed Scouse smart arse and brother to Runcorn’s answer to Chuck Norris, only with less hair and a shitter beard. It has been several days since the zombie apocalypse came to Runcorn and now my home town, is nothing more than a dead town. This is my journal…The comedy horror trilogy continues with Death in a Northern Town 3: Dead Man Walking. Follow John, 80s Dave, Butty and Emily on their journey through zombie infested Runcorn, trying their best to survive against both the dead and the living.

I’ve said it after every book I bloody love this series!! This one was a just as good as the first two. I actually nearly wet myself laughing (or could be I’m getting old and after having 4 kids things get that way 😂😂😂) and also woke my husband at 1am at 80s Daves dream. The Tina Turner nut bush started it but Freddie Kruger and the mayonnaise spoon just had me in bits. I absolutely love this writers style and I still think it’s one of the best zombie books I’ve read. I urge everyone to read it. Also yay for zombie geese and ducks!!
