You can't really go wrong with Tom Hanks - has that man ever made a bad film? Sully is no exception either. I knew little about the aftermath of the crash or the reason for it, so I was grateful the film covered this. It has a brilliant lead in Tom Hanks with a great supporting cast too. The effects are very good and overall this is a very interesting and enthralling film. My only issue would be that the story has been dragged out longer than it should've been with a few potentially unnecessary scenes.

Fabulous historical political biopic
It's easy to dismiss this as another big budget Hollywood film, however, the fact that Tom Hanks' character has to fight against the American judicial system makes it seem less like a "Make America Great Again" type of movie. Jim Donovan was a unique lawyer defending a Soviet spy, and then making an exchange for a US soldier and student stuck in East Berlin. The historical political nature of this biopic is fascinating. And while there is an element of hero worshipping, there's a good reason to love Tom Hanks.

I was so moved by this film that I nearly cried at the end when it was proven that Sully had made the correct decision. I was completely involved and enthralled at this true story. Tom Hanks plays his character perfectly as usual.

Meryl Streep
the underlying message
slow paced (1 more)
maybe boring for those who aren't interested in public affairs
Hanks and Streep are an amazing duo
Being a journalism student I thought I better see this because it relates to my studies. So it's not the type of film I would see usually. It is boring in parts, and a bit slow paced.
But the acting from Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep will always make up for anything. They are two of the best actors of all time, and this film is no different.
The underlying message is great, that the press should hold powers to account. It made me feel more empowered as a person, and as a journalist.
However, it also made me realise that a lot of the modern press has forgotten this.

Tom Hanks appears again in Captain Phillips, following a ship’s crew as they try to survive being boarded by pirates. Based on a true story, this is an emotionally charged film with an incredibly tense atmosphere.
