David McK (3496 KP) rated The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) in Movies
Jul 26, 2020
The middle part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, with Frodo falling further under the sway of the Ring of Power as he and Sam attempt to make their way to Mordor (led by Gollum) whilst simultaneously, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli take part in the defence of Helms Deep (the high point of the trilogy for many), whilst the Ents eventually rise up against Saruman.
Less fantastical than the first movie, this is really all about the lead up to the war of the Ring.

David McK (3496 KP) rated Chaosmage (The Age of Darkness Trilogy, #3) in Books
Jan 30, 2019
The final part of [a:Stephen Aryan|10372063|Stephen Aryan|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1435501696p2/10372063.jpg]'s 'Age of Darkness' trilogy (that also consists of [b:Battlemage|24396857|Battlemage (The Age of Darkness Trilogy, #1)|Stephen Aryan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1434726211s/24396857.jpg|43981438] and [b:Bloodmage|26030693|Bloodmage (The Age of Darkness Trilogy #2)|Stephen Aryan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1454627052s/26030693.jpg|46819958]), with this one having more-than-a-hint of 'The Walking Dead' about it, primarily set (as it is) in a compound in an eerily abandoned and destroyed city (after the war covered in [b:Battlemage|24396857|Battlemage (The Age of Darkness Trilogy, #1)|Stephen Aryan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1434726211s/24396857.jpg|43981438]) that is under siege by - more or less - zombies.
OK, maybe not zombies in the classicly - or comtemporarily (is that a word?) - understood sense, but that's more or less what 'The Forsaken' (as they are called) come across as.
This novel also sees the return of the Battlemage Balfruss - who seems to be modelled after [a:David Gemmell|11586|David Gemmell|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1202771023p2/11586.jpg]'s character of Druss, if Druss could use magic - with it taking more or less chapter about to move between his point of view and the other key characters.
All-inan-all a solid ending to the trilogy, that leaves the door open for further tales to be told in this world.

Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Back to the Future: The Ultimate Visual History in Books
Jan 12, 2018
A wonderful birthday present from Keith and Sarah, i blew through this in less than a week. Granted, there are some big, beautiful full-page pictures, but the story of the Back To The Future trilogy is just as fascinating. As a long time fan, (Back to the Future is a perfect trilogy, and I'll challenge anyone to fisticuffs who says otherwise!) a lot of this information I knew. But I also found MANY undiscovered nuggets that made me love it even more. In depth and accessible, with a week by week breakdown of what was shot, when, where and how. The last chapters go beyond the Trilogy to cover the Ride at Universal Studios and the CBS cartoon series, this is truly the Ultimate Visual history. (Published before the start of IDWs comic series, it unfortunately misses those.)

David McK (3496 KP) rated Star Wars: Age of Rebellion - Villains in Books
Sep 8, 2019
While the Star Wars Extended Universe has been (unofficially) doing this for years now, Disney has finally come out and given each of the current 3 distinct eras in the films their own 'name's: 'Age of Republic' (The Prequel Trilogy), 'Age of Rebellion' (Original Trilogy) and 'Age of Resistance' (Sequel Trilogy)
This, therefore, is set during the middle - arguably best - of those three, and is really a collection of short stories, each focusing on a given villain from that era: Grand Moff Tarkin, Boba Fett, IG-88, Jabba the Hutt and Darth Vader himself. As such, the stories are a bit hit and miss, with some forgettable while others adding nuance and depth to the characters. I may pick up the 'Age of Rebellion: Heroes' companion when it comes out, but probably won't be rushing out to buy it.
