This Much is True
By Miriam Margoyles
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
From Blackadder to Call the Midwife, from PG Tips to Harry Potter, Miriam Margolyes is Britain's favourite national treasure -- this is (at last) her extraordinary life story and it's well worth the wait.
She is a true gem a British treasure. I loved reading this her life is full of funny stories and such a beautiful memories. She has always been an honest open person when we watch her interviews I absolutely love watching her on Graham Norton. Such a genuinely beautiful woman.

Alison Pink (7 KP) rated That Night in Books

Another great book by Stevens! Her novels are always quick reads. They are very easy to get hooked in to & the stories are always so true to life. I found myself rooting for Toni through the whole story. She was a likable character despite the guilt & accusations swirling around her & Ryan. I look forward to reading more of her work.
Alison Pink (7 KP) rated Dexter in the Dark (Dexter, #3) in Books
Jan 15, 2018
This installment of the Dexter series was a disappointment. It veered off the tried & true Dexter story line into one of ancient gods. Really!? It took me a lot longer to slog through, but it wasn't bad enough to keep me from continuing with the series. Here's to hoping Linsey has something better up his sleeve for the next book.
Erika (17788 KP) rated The Martian (2015) in Movies

It wasn't a perfect adaption, but I still liked it, nonetheless. I had a problem with Jessica Chastain (but, I have problems with her in every movie that has her in it), she was wooden. Matt Damon did well as Watney, and the other supporting characters were great.
The BEST thing I overheard in the movie theater was 'is this a true story?'

Kate (355 KP) rated The Highwaymen (2019) in Movies
Mar 30, 2019
This is based on the true story on how Bonny and Clyde were finally caught, it is quite slow but watchable, The two main characters do spend a lot of time in the car and driving along empty roads. It did show the following that Bonny and Clyde had and how they managed to get away with it for so long.
Elizabeth (1521 KP) rated The Joy Luck Club in Books

I've always loved the movie and have been curious to read the book. It was MUCH shorter than I had expected but the movie stayed true to the story and it was easy to recall the visuals for each scene. However, the book didn't seem as engaging or captivating as the movie and I didn't really get a sense of the characters.

The Wolf was framed. He wasn't looking for a pig lunch and dinner that day when he visited his three neighbors. And now you can get the truth from this delightful picture book. Kids of all ages will absolutely love it.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2206 KP) rated The Animated Man: A Life of Walt Disney in Books
Mar 9, 2018
I found this to be an interesting and balance biography of Walt Disney. The author played media critic a bit too much, which bothered me, but in the end I walked away with a clearer picture of a true American success story.

Erika (17788 KP) rated 12 Years a Slave (2013) in Movies
Nov 17, 2018
This is one of those films that you only really need to watch once, and never have to watch again (like Schindler's List). It's brutal, and based upon a true story, which makes it even more powerful. Great direction from Steve McQueen, and killer cast. I'm a huge Michael Fassbender fan, and he killed it in his creepy role.
