It is OK, but there are better apps that will probably be more useful to you!
I have been using Facebook for a very long time now. It all started when MySpace and Hi5 were not popular anymore, and it was the only way to connect with friends and family.

I loved playing the games as well (FarmVille Master over here!!!). Then the games started dying too.

Now, Facebook seems to be only good for promoting your business and selling your political agendas. Other more popular apps/platforms have now replaced what Facebook used to be, such as Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, LinkedIn.

Graphic novels are not usually my first choice of books. But after seeing the book cover, I couldn't resist the urge. I just had to read Mooncakes.

Mooncakes is a cute paranormal story, filled with magic, love, family... In a paranormal city, Nova, a teen witch goes to the woods and follows a white wolf. It turns out that the wolf is her high-school crush, Tam. It would all be lovely, but Tam is in life danger and needs help. The two girls help each other and their connection grows throughout the book.

The scenery of the cosy home of Nova's grandmothers and the lovely bookshelves gave me a wonderful feeling of comfort. I loved their warm house, the lovely relationship they had and the love you could feel through the pages.

I enjoyed Mooncakes - it was adorable. If you like graphic novels, cute art and a little sparkle of magic - this book will not disappoint you.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, Lion Forge, for sending me an E-Arc copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

Bruce Dern recommended Amadeus (1984) in Movies (curated)

Amadeus (1984)
Amadeus (1984)
1984 | Drama, History, Musical

"""The second movie that stuck with me more than any others was Amadeus. Because that guy did that. You know what I mean? I remember when Prince died a few years ago, I had a Twitter at that time (I don’t have it anymore). But all I put out on my little Twitter was, “We lost our Mozart today.” And I think that’s true. I look at Bohemian Rhapsody and they did a very nice job with it — the kid is very good, this Rami Malek. It was a good movie, but [Freddie Mercury’s] not Mozart. I think [with Amadeus] they did as good a job [as they could] without doing a documentary in the era of 400 years ago or, actually, however many years ago it was. I go back to when Lawrence climbed on a motorcycle at the end of Lawrence of Arabia. And that’s the same thing [with Amadeus]: When Mozart is writing the piece at the end of the movie and Salieri cannot even keep up with him. He’s that quick and he’s that ahead and Salieri says, “No, no, you go too fast, you go too fast, you have to slow down, slow down.” But there’s no slowing down. “Are you with me, are you with me?” And he says, “Yes, yes, I think I get it.” And Mozart says, “And now … 400 voices,” and Salieri just drops the pen and says, “Well that can’t be done. We can’t do that.” And then within five minutes, we see him lying in a potter’s field grave at 26 years old."""

Very useful app
Shazam is pretty much as synonymous with identifying music as Google is to internet searching. Whenever you hear a piece of music you don't know, you automatically say "I'll shazam it" and it really works. There's only a rare occasion when it hasn't been able to identify a song and that is usually down to low volume or too loud background noise. It's so easy to use as well.

The only negative I can think of is the app itself has become a little too commerialised. I just want to know the name & artist of a song, yet now as well as this you get advertisements, options to purchase, YouTube videos, Twitter, other recommendations. I know this is how things are nowadays but for me it's all a bit too much.

Firstly, this book was written almost ten years ago when MySpace was a really popular site. Now if it had been a newer, edited version where all the MySpace's were replaced with Facebook or Twitter I might have gelled with it a little more.

Secondly, it's supposed to be YA but the way the characters were acting for 18 year olds was pretty ridiculous at times. It was like they were fifteen or something. I struggled to get Courtney. She was so annoying at times, so whiny and inner turmoil-y. So immature compared to some other books I've read lately.

Thirdly, the thing that split them up was pretty obvious after about 100 pages. A lot of drama over something that could have been so easily sorted out.

Not my sort of book.

5 Minute Movie Guy (379 KP) created a post in Smashbomb Feedback

Sep 27, 2019
I'm not able to use the new Smashbomb widget on my WordPress.com website. I guess the tag <iframe> is considered a possible security concern. There are some widgets that are built into the site editor already, like Facebook and Twitter for instance, but trying to add an external widget through html did not work for me because it says <iframe> is not allowed. I'd love to add the widget if there's any other possible way to do so, but sadly, I'm thinking there might not be. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

I should note that if I upgrade my website to their Business plan, then <iframe> would be allowed, but it's considerably more expensive that my current Premium plan, so I won't be doing that any time soon.

I don't have the access to the plugins, you need a business account to use them

Same issue here on Wordpress. If I had a business account it would be allowed, but I do not and I'm not planning to upgrade.

I chose to read The Iron Man by Ted Hughes as part of my Potions prompt for my OWLs Readathon in April. I am very glad I picked it up, because it was such a pleasant short read.

This is a Children's book about a little boy an an iron man. The Iron Man starts eating all the metal in the town, and the concerned town members capture him. But when a bigger danger comes around, the might need the help of the Iron Man after all.

The book was beautifully written and it had many illustrations that supported the story. Illustrations are always something I truly admire. These may have been a bit too grim for me though.

The writing is very smooth and easy to digest. I believe that it is able to spark a child's imagination and curiosity. The book is entangled in bravery, friendships and adventure, and I am certain that it will be a child's dear friend forever, should they read it once.

I recommend watching the 1999 animated movie The Iron Giant after reading the book, for better enjoyment.

So it took me a long time to pick this up, mainly due to the artwork, more like the faces, more specifically the girls' faces are weird and squishy-square. But then I saw the horror show that was Squirrel Girl's debut....

Are you read for this?

There aren't any small children or animals around, right?

You don't have any heart problems? Epilepsy? Minor anxiety?

Okay, but I warned you:
<spoiler><IMG src="http://i66.tinypic.com/9u15cw.jpg"/IMG></spoiler>;

I know, right? Total nightmare fuel. I'm fine(-ish) with the faces now.

In addition, the story and Twitter feeds are totally effing funny. And cute. And perfect in almost every way. Except the squirrel suit. Because that's just weird and creepy.

And oh yeah, where can I get her roommate Nancy's posters because they're awesome:

Normally, I skip past Our Shared Shelf book club picks, because they rarely interest me. I figured that I like poetry, and everyone talks about how much they love this collection, that I'd give it a try.
Thank god it only took me 30 minutes to read. I liked some of it, I felt like it started strong, but then it turned into tumblr/twitter poetry that should have one of those scenic pictures behind it. Maybe I'd be more impressed if I didn't write very similar poetry after a break up forever ago. Also, who is telling this chick that she needs to shave? How many times did it really need to be brought up? That was the nail in the coffin for me.

If I hadn't had higher expectations, I may have rated it higher but... no.
