Such an important film, well worth all the awards
"If it takes a community to raise a child, it takes one to abuse them."

Spotlight is such an important part of media history because they uncovered one of the darkest secrets of one community, which mirrors all communities. The film is awe-inspiring, so much so that I wanted to go back into a newsroom and be a TV journalist again at the forefront of major news. This is literally the best film for journalists to watch and for audiences to understand what it's like to work in a newsroom. More importantly, it shows how vital the media can be when actually doing proper investigations.

It is extremely dark given the subject nature - but having been in a similar situation breaking the story of Jimmy Savile in the UK for British media, the film completely reflects my own personal experiences.

Very amateur Slasher
Stumbled across this on Amazon low budget UK slasher film that tries to capture the 80's Horror vibe. Obviously influenced by Friday the 13th mainly. Some of the ideas are OK, the score was good and Killer mask wasn't bad. Unfortunately as with most basic budget films the execution is poor. Bad acting, poor almost non-existent plot, cheap effects really make it one to miss.

Odd comedy
Spotted this comedy on Sky cinema and gave it a go as the UK cast were quite well known. Sadly it's just not that funny. Very few laughs at all, a shame given the cast involved from so many other funny films and TV shows. Towards the end it got quite serious which really didn't fit well with the rest of film. One to skip.

I have to say that the new movie, OLD, from M Night Shyamalan, had me intrigued when I first saw the trailer for it a while back so when the film finally had its release here in the UK on Friday (23rd July) I had to check it out at my local Cineworld.

If you are a dedicated follower/fan of Shyamalan then this is going to be a film that you will want to see on the big screen, don’t expect lots of action or any action at all in this movie it’s a slow-burning mystery/drama that keeps you guessing.

Known as "How I spent my summer Vacation" in the UK?! A strange and quirky film set in a Mexican prison, which feels more like a mini city full of bad guys. This didn't get much hype, and I didn't know what to expect which possibly made me like it a bit more. It feels a bit gritty and rough around the edges compared to a lot of Mel Gibson's films, but it was still a decent watch if nothing spectacular. Reminded me of Payback a little.

Crazy true story
The story is so silly you couldn't make it up, but it's actually true. I think I remember it on the news even here in the UK at time vaguely. Based on true events as Tonya Harding is looking to make the Olympic figure skating team. However her husband takes drastic measures to help her.
It's an interesting story with some oddball characters. Margot Robbie is very good. Enjoyable but not a film I would watch over and over.

Awix (3310 KP) rated A Clockwork Orange (1971) in Movies

A Clockwork Orange (1971)

Kubrick's provocative examination of violence and morality. Young offender Alex (McDowell) leads a carefree life of theft, assault, and rape, until his actions catch up with him and he is sent to prison. There he volunteers for a new therapy which is supposed to remove his capacity for violent wrongdoing...

A massively iconic, much-imitated film, despite being taken out of circulation (in the UK at least) by the director for thirty years. The film's musings on the nature of moral agency are less striking than its baleful, scathing criticism of social attitudes towards crime and punishment, and the extraordinarily vivid opening and still difficult-to-watch opening sequence. A grotesque morality play with many coups de cinema; an extraordinary film by any standard.

Hey everyone been a bit light on reviews over the past week as my cinema hasn't had anything yet that I haven't already seen.

Have no fear joker is out this week so look forward to a review on that very soon.

In the mean time if you haven't seen my film of the year midsommar check out my review and then have a look at this that I found on the Italian Amazon site.

Sadly there is no 4k release in the Uk so when I saw this I didn't care about the price I just had to pre-order it straight away (4k discs are region free). This isn't me trying to sell anything or trying to get commission I'm just simply saying this film is an absolute masterpiece and if your a film or horror fan a must see and with such a clean and bright colour pallet theres no other way than 4k to experience it.

The portrayal of Stan and Ollie (0 more)
Not a real feel good film considering the subject. (0 more)
Great portrayal of two greats
Coogan and Reilly star as the legendary double act, both actors must has spent hours perfecting Laurel and Hardys mannerisms, speech and comic timing as their portrayal of their respective characters are spot on...

This is the story of the latter part of their career, on a tour of the UK with the possibility of a new film as a dangling carrot to perform...

The comic routines during the stage parts of the film are almost as well performed as the real thing, yet coupled with the humour, is an underlying sadness of two stars trying to regain what they once had, and it's this that stops it being a feel good film as it is quite moving and sad if you are a fan of the duo...

It is interesting to see how their relationship is strained at times yet in spite of that how much they obviously cared for each other...

I don't know if the stars won any awards for their playing of Stan & Ollie, but if they didn't, they should have...

Great make-up, costume effects - the werewolves look great. (0 more)
One of the best Werewolf films!
One of the best horrors I have seen in recent years. A low budget UK film but it is bloody and tense as well. A group of soldiers are on a training mission in the Scottish Highlands when they encounter a pack of werewolves. The werewolves look great, largely due to the design and costumes rather than Cgi use. If you love Horror films this is one of the best Werewolf films around.
