This is a short, seasonal story of a woman who has been dealt a really rough hand, plus two Irish vampires - one of which wants to help, the other one wants to help himself... to start with. The connection that comes alive with these three is almost tangible. It is a bond that starts with the familiarity of loneliness and swiftly moves on to happier, more passionate feelings.

The Bite of Winter is the first book in a new series that I am looking forward to reading more of. The 'black' character of Seamus surely has to appear in future books.

For a hot book with a seasonal smile, I can surely recommend this one.

Subversive (The Warrior book 3)

⭐️⭐️

Rachel Clancy should never be counted out. She's a fighter and fighters never quit. Her destiny is to lead in a world filled with vampires and werewolves--void of romance and flowers. In charge of a secret revolution that could change her home forever, she's forced to battle and vanquish any threat to her friends and family. But no matter how many times she's won, the evil that threatens her never forgets her name.

Life is a continuous battle that never ends.

Especially for Rachel...

Oh dear! I’ve been enjoying this series but this one I just couldn’t settle with Rachel was a bit whiney and it didn’t seem to gel like the other books. The ending was completely what sideswiped me I’m not sure what to make of it all. Usually Rebecca’s books have me loving them but this just threw me. I’m confused.

Richard Matheson's classic 1954 horror story, that (according to Wikipedia) has been converted four times into movies: The Last Man on Earth (1964), The Omega Man(1971),I Am Legend(2007) and I Am Omega(2007)

Of those, I was aware of only Charlton Heston's The Omega Man and Will Smith's I Am Legend, only having seen the latter. I'm also aware that that film also deviates from the source material (when do they not!), with the book describing the pandemic as (more-or-less) turning people into vampires rather than the zombies of the film. In both cases, Robert Neville seems to be immune to the virus, and is trying to work out how to cure it, while seemingly the last human being on the planet. The two versions, however, also end rather differently, with the novell(a) suiting the title 'I am legend' (and explaining why) more than the movie does!

DNF 1

I had a huge 5 ⭐️ reads this month and I loved each one but my absolute favourite was The Empire of the Vampires that book was just epic!! Also if you love zombie and a good giggle definitely go for Death in a Northern town just so good!!

My best #fromabox book was The Doll Funeral it was honestly so good.

My DNF was well justified the author is always hot and miss and this time he missed it big his whole attitude was just so bad!

The other book that I was looking forward to but was a little disappointed in was Ariadne it was good but I fell for the hype and expected more 🙈
