Pretty unique take on a World War 1 war movie. Unique story and very unique styling.
Follows two individuals as they attempt to deliver an urgent message to the front lines in the trenches of WWI, directly in the line of fire.
There are some slow times during the movie but the highs definitely make up for the lows, and there will be emotions.

This new historical fiction book is also biographical fiction, and it might appeal to lovers of historical fantasy, because of the paranormal elements included. "Cher Ami and Major Whittlesey" tells the story of a soldier in WWI and the homing pigeon that helped rescue his battalion. I hope you'll take a look at my #bookreview of this beautifully written novel by Kathleen Rooney on my blog now.

The women who went to Europe in 1917 as signal corps officers with the US Army, played an enormous part in helping bring the “Great War” to its conclusion. However, until 1979, they were literally the unsung heroes of WWI, because the army refused to recognize them as proper soldiers. This injustice brought author Aimie K. Runyan to write this gripping historical fiction novel, that highlights these women and their contributions. You can read my #bookreview of “Girls on the Line” on my blog now.

Exciting, fast-paced, no fluff
Classic conflicts of child/parent, friend/(boy)friend, working/privileged classes, come to a head with a brutal murder, pre-WWI industrial espionage, and a race to survive the crossing.
The publisher classes it as YA, but it is suitable for a well-read late middle grader as the murder is neither gory nor superfluous to the plot. The language is clear and direct, the dialogue natural, and the settings imaginative.

Erika (17789 KP) rated The Missing Matisse: A Memoir in Books

I've been trying to finish this book for months. Today, I realized that I didn't actually care what happened, so I stopped reading.
It started slow, then got slightly more interesting once WWI started. HOWEVER, I picked up this book because I thought it was going to be more about the artists at the time.
The description of the book is very misleading, if you want to read a mildly interesting memoir about a kid who participated in the French Resistance and was "related" to Matisse. Honestly, bringing up the uncertainty of who this dude's biological father was a side note and didn't make sense.
