Suswatibasu (1703 KP) rated True Detective - Season 1 in TV

Great first series, extremely dark
If you watch the first series DO NOT watch the second series which is a total let down in comparison. The partnership between Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson is absolutely stellar, acting at its highest level. The story is hideously dark, and the two actors, who are fatally flawed, are completely perfect for the role. It surrounds a serial killer who murders young girls in a cult-like fashion, and the coming together of these two detectives after many years to try and finally solve it. A really well done first series.

No where near as good as the trailer made it seem. It was interesting to learn if the crime but I would rather watch a documentary that goes into the factual details of the case and the police's theories rather than theories which were a bit out there and just put forward by actors and actresses, which are just random members of the public. The Buzzfeed Unsolved episode on Jon Benet is a lot more factually interesting and goes into a lot more detail. If you want to learn about the case I would say watch that instead.

Remake bah!
I know there is a new version of this film coming out soon and I'm not happy about it. The same way I wasn't happy about The Beguiled remake (which was horrible), some movies are better untouched.
This might be my favorite Steve McQueen film or at least his best acting performance (maybe The Sand Pebbles?) Everyone should watch this prison film and also the triumph of the human spirit.
Dustin Hoffman is also great as well as the great filming locations. They augment the story and make it more believable.
Highly recommended.

Watched it again last night as had not seen it for a while, still enjoyed it. I have questions though - when the rest of the crew woke up 88 years later, yes they found a changed ship but were there descendants of the main characters on the ship or would they have found two decomposed bodies (sorry about that). Sometimes it is good to watch a film where there are only a couple of people in it because you can then get to know them whereas if you watch a fully cast film some of the characters get lost.

Thoroughly enjoyed this, it was lovely to relive that 80’s movie vibe. If you enjoy ‘Stranger Things’ then you may enjoy this too, although the storyline is nowhere near as in depth as ‘Stranger Things.’
Well acted, the film takes things slowly but tension soon mounts, and ultimately leads to tragedy, and a very dark ending. I’m pleased the ending wasn’t a cop out, as this makes a refreshing change in this genre of movie.
More thriller than horror, it makes a change to watch something that’s obviously had a lot of thought and passion go into it. Well worth a watch.

Surprising
I put this one off for a long time because I heard it wasn't very good. I'm glad I finally watched it. The effects were pretty cool and the acting was on par with most action movies. The story was "fantastical" like any sci-fi movie should be- not really believable but fun to watch. It played out well and had plenty of great action sequences. The monsters were pretty cool too. This eas like "Halo" meets "Godzilla". It's even "kid friendly".If you love sci-fi action adventures(and haven't seen it already) this one is worth a watch!

This show was such a fun watch. Unlike other singing shows this is one I looked forward to watching with my dad every week. We always tried to guess which celebrity was behind each mask every week and we did ok at it. It was so fun. I dont think TPain should have won over Donnie Osmond and Joey Fatone though. My rabbit def got kicked out too early. The costumes were so beautiful on this show and If they come out with a season 2 I will watch it for sure

Stays true to the original material (1 more)
Actors fit the characters well
Devilishly Angelic
I was a little nervous about this one as the book it's based on is one of my all time favourite reads. However, I was very pleasantly surprised with this mini series, of course this is down to Neil Gaiman being involved in the whole project meaning that it remained true to the original material. The actors were well chosen and the young cast portraying Adam and his friends were a true pleasure to watch. All in all a great weekend watch that I thoroughly enjoyed.

He is actually six-five, with the afro, six-nine.
Every scene is a complete classic.
One of my favorite comedies of all time and my favorite Chevy Chase film shows him as a newspaper reporter who is hired by a man to kill him. Through Fletch's enterprising investigation, he discovers all sorts of things about his employer, none of which are good.
Chase's many disguises, iterations and quips makes this film a true classic and a movie I could watch over and over again.
So glad they never made, "Fletch Won."

Still great 20 years later
Full review here:
20 years on, this movie still holds up and remains just as joyous a watch as it ever was. For me, this is up there with the best performance than Jim Carrey has given. He finds a nice balance here between the over the top comedy he is known for and a more nuanced one. As for the plot itself, it's even more sinister in the days of reality TV and while I don't think things would ever get this far- it's a cautionary tale of what could be.
