My husband was really not enthralled by this film. He did not think it was funny or clever.
So naturally I divorced him.
This was the first film I managed to sit all the way through after having a baby, (one often finds one is terribly tired 15 minuets in) and I was glad I did.
There was something very magical, very Wes Anderson about this film.
Just when I thought I had it figured out, bam! Curveball!
Some great cinematography, great acting, and a selection of jumpers that make it look like a well directed sweater advert.
My favourite Who Donit to date and well worth a watch.

Brilliantly done
I'll be honest, except for Grand Budapest I'm not a massive fan of Wes Anderson. So I wasn't particularly bothered about this, and even more so after seeing the trailer when it was first released at the cinema - it just looked a little too weird. However I'm pleased to say that this was a surprisingly good film.
The best thing about this film is the execution. The stop motion is absolutely superb and truly flawless, it's beautiful to see stop motion made like this. And the voice cast too are brilliant. Unlike a lot of animated films, the entire cast fits perfectly and there aren't any voices that don't fit. The plot itself is interesting, dark and definitely not a kids film. It's also surprisingly funny in parts. Some of this gets a little "talky" at times and despite the short run time, the film feels a lot longer than it actually is. But it's still worth a watch for the stop motion alone.

Amazing animation (1 more)
Fantastic voice acting
Good Dog
In my opinion, Wes Anderson is pretty overrated. Other than Grand Budapest Hotel, I haven't been a big fan of anything else that he has done, yet critics and fans seem to adore everything he touches. This meant that I had hardly any hype going into Isle Of Dogs and only seen it because of some good reviews I had read online.
This film is great. It features an incredible cast, whose voices all work remarkably well for this story. The stop-motion animation is astonishing and beautiful at times and it tells an interesting, satisfying story.
There isn't much not to like here, the only thing that I will say is that although the animation style makes this sort of look like a kids movie, I would not recommend it for kids. There are some fairly adult themes present and a kid would probably get bored while watching too.
Overall, this film is definitely worth a watch, even if only to see the impressive stop-motion animation on show.

Pointlessly random
Only the second time I've walked out of the cinema.
I had very high hopes for this film, with an outstanding cast, and cast, and the usually brilliant Wes Anderson behind the wheel.
But it doesn't matter how good a cast is, it needs to be a good film.
Asteroid City is a play within a film, but unfortunately it tells the story of the play, and of the lead up to its opening night. Unfortunately the dynamic of switching between the two different stories really disrupts the flow of what would likely be a an enjoyable story.
Secondly, I know his films can be quite random at points, but a lot of scenes seem to be random for the sake of being random, adding nothing to the film or the story.
Also, only a nitpicky thing, but some of the songs featured during the 1955 scenes (Last Train to San Fernando, Freight Train) were songs that weren't released until 1957.
Overall, a great idea but poorly executed.
