Ponderous retelling of the Christie novel.
This update of Agatha Christie's famous whodunnit certainly looks the part, and the who's who cast certainly give it their all. But for all its visual splendour, the film fails to really engage and is let down by plodding pace and bloated run time. Akin to watching a beautiful piece of antique furniture for two and a half hours.

A Breakfast Club whodunnit!
Okay I have to say I was completely shocked with just how much I enjoyed this one! I am not really a fan of mysteries in general because I always guess the ending no matter how cleaved the book/show thinks they're being. But when it came to One Of Us Is Lying is just couldn't put it down. I guessed the ending a little before the halfway point but it didn't bother me at all since McManus kept throwing more curve balls that had me second guessing myself.

Great!
This "whodunnit" was a surprisingly spirited and fun watch. I thought it would be a spoof of old school mystery movies but it wasn't. The acting was phenomenal and the cinematography spot on. Everyone played their characters wonderfully and the story unfolded beautifully. Some of it was predictable but it had plenty of twists and turns throughout the entire film and kept you guessing until the end.I highly recommend watching it. While younger kids may not understand all of it, it's a movie the whole family can enjoy. REALLY worth a watch!

Thanks to NetGalley for my copy of this book. A great combination of intrigue, mystery and even a touch of the supernatural, this whodunnit is filled with a fair few climactic twists. DI Charlie Moon returns having to work against the grain after his suspension from duty, even hiring the help of a local journalist to solve this gruesome murder. While the conclusion may have ended abruptly, it culminates in the ultimate karmic retribution. Jenny Francis manages to capture both the idyllic countryside and the brutality of injustice in one swoop of her pen. An enjoyable read.

A little bit formulaic and unoriginal
As much as this has been dubbed the next Girl on a Train, that was part of the problem - it was too much the same. A slightly neurotic protagonist, and a typical tyrannical male character with a dash of Christian Grey involved.
The structure was well done, going back and forth the different narratives, so it was totally reminiscent of the different stories in Girl on a Train. Because of the formulaic story, the whodunnit ends up becoming predictable. You just need to choose which tyrannical male character it could be. Slightly disappointed but still readable.

Great read until the ending
I didn't really know anything about this book, having picked it from the Richard & Judy book club list, but I was pleasantly surprised.
It starts off well, lots of tension and suspense and some interesting flawed charscyers. It has you questioning all of the characters motives to figure out "whodunnit". My issue is that this was dragged out for far too long and that by the time you got to the ending, it was all a little too predictable. Good writing though and i would definitely read any more books by Shari Lapena.

I could not put this book down, I love the story and the different time frames, I was nearly always itching to read the next 'past tense chapter hoping to find out more. I like the lead Detective. The characters were well thought up. I did guess whodunnit so it didnt have the full suspense for me but overall a good read. I would agree with others who have stated it is not as good as The Dry but still has it's own merit and worth a read.

Set during the period of the English Civil Wars, I have to say that I found this to be rather unusual in that it is not about (per se) the wars themselves: rather, it is set in the New Model Army camp over a winter period, between hostilities, with William Falkland (the Royalist of the title) plucked from his prison cell by none other than Oliver Cromwell himself and sent to investigate reports of suicides/disturbances in the camp.
Reading very much like a ECW version of a whodunnit, with the author - in the afterword - not at all shy to point out the influences of the hard-boiled detective hero/film noir of the 40s (think Dashiell Hammett or Raymond Chandler) on this work.

I love it when the edges of the pages in a book are bright colours! It makes me so happy to find books that look like this, and it automatically makes me want to read the book more. It’s a lovely touch.
However, I feel like the cover could have been better. It definitely doesn’t sell the book with how simplistic it is and I feel that it doesn’t fit the novel too well. This is just my opinion, but for a whodunnit I expected a darker colour scheme for the cover.
I’ve actually never read a whodunnit within the YA genre, and I really feel like it’s a gap that wants covering more.
It did take me a short while to get into the book, but after the first hundred pages, I quickly finished the book within a few hours. It had me gripped with all of the twists and turns.
I was making theories all the way through of who killed Simon, but I wasn’t ever even close to being right. This is so cleverly written that you really have no idea at all until the final few pages.
The characters were definitely realistic. I really liked that there was a real mixture of personalities rather than sticking with just one clichéd group.
The only reason that I can’t get past three stars with this one is just the fact that I almost gave up on it. The start seems to drag a bit and get a bit boring.
Other than that, though, One Of Us Is Lying is really thrilling and mysterious, and definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something different to read.
