The newly promoted Prefect Cato (who has thus overtaken his old mentor and friend Macro - now a Centurion - in rank), as well as Centurion Macro, are given the task of taking command of a military outpost on the borders of the empire: a military outpost in which the previous Prefect has been killed in mysterious circumstances, and in which (it proves) the current Commander and his Blood Wolves are carrying out a policy of total war against the inhabitants of the valley in which the fort is situated.
It's not long before Cato has to assert his own authority, as well as finding ways to deal with hordes of vengeful natives on his doorstep ...
As before in the series, I found this to be an enjoyable read: it will also be interesting to see where the series goes next! :)

Merissa (13197 KP) rated Sebastian's Wolves (Among Wolves #1) in Books
Dec 17, 2018
The title of this book tells you the start of the tale. Sebastian is a wolf who leaves his pack to be with his mate, Tim. 8 years down the line and tragedy happens, Tim dies. Sebastian has to deal with this and, for me, this is where the story picked up.
I have to say that the relationship between Tim and Sebastian didn't really do much for me. It seemed too inbalanced with Sebastian doing most of the loving. This didn't really sit well with me as I already viewed Sebastian as an alpha male. Once he meets up with his new pack then he really starts to come into his own. And then Eshan is the cherry on the icing on the cake.
This book has nice parts and not so nice parts - so don't read this if you're expecting or wanting something that is light and fluffy. We're talking murder, abuse and rape (although not in graphic detail).
Sebastian's Wolves is a well-written, steady-paced novel full of action that I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to anyone who enjoys some M/M action with a paranormal twist.

Merissa (13197 KP) rated Fated Always (The Fated Series #4) in Books
Aug 25, 2020
Although this is the fourth book in the series, you can read it as a standalone. I have only read book three before this, and Jenna and Gabe make appearances in here too, but nothing that you 'need' to know to follow this story.
The story is easy to follow, with a few red herrings to throw you off course. The scenes, characters, and situations are clear enough to enable the reader to see them clearly.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have no hesitation in recommending it. I thought the supernatural element was brilliant but I just would have loved to find out about the mysterious wolf before I finished Tala and Sawyer's book!

Merissa (13197 KP) rated Unusual Night (A Warrior's Promise #2) in Books

One thing I loved about this one is we get to meet Gabriel and find out about Gwen's past through his eyes. Gwen is growing in leaps and bounds in every way possible but is still some eight months away from her Change. Craze is just as wonderful as possible, along with Kayden, Orion, etc. I thought the whole situation with Thor was handled very well and I loved seeing how Gwen affected his pack.
Another long book to get your teeth into, this provided me with hours of entertainment. I am loving how the story is progressing, how the characters are changing, and am looking forward to seeing what the future brings for our main characters. Saying that, there are now a number of characters I want stories for! Absolutely recommended by me.
