Imogen SB (4507 KP) rated Architects of the West Kingdom in Tabletop Games
Mar 19, 2019
'Architects of the West Kingdom is great. It’s a fresh take on worker placement, building further on Raiders’ already stellar offering, and is able to boast the same elegance in design as its predecessor but with a snappier speed.'

Great Example of Worker Placement
Wine Making in Tuscany, worker placement mechanics, and so elegantly done, with just enough complexity to make it interesting.
I adore this game, I love wine and this is a nearly perfect game for that theme. You send your workers out to do things, maybe it's planting some vines, upgrading the buildings, picking the grapes, crushing them, or maybe bottling them. But you only have so many of them, unless you hire and train new ones. Also maybe you should give some tours so you can make some money. This is a great game, also good games like this would be Stone Age and Lord of Waterdeep.
Imogen SB (4507 KP) rated Evil High Priest in Tabletop Games
Mar 19, 2019
'Evil High Priest is a unique take on the worker placement games that I enjoyed. I liked the balancing of getting vs. protecting resources, using your two different types of cultists on four different boards and, specifically, the race to shatter Elder Signs on the cult board.'

The Art is Great!
Great Gateway Game: In the stone ages, you send your village out to accomplish different things
Worker placement is essentially you being the boss, and you tell people what to do, and you do this by putting your people in different areas like hunting for food, cutting down wood, building a farm, making tools, or maybe even making some more villagers (brown chicken, brown cow) You roll the dice to see how good your workers are at the jobs you assign them. This is a great version of this genre of game, It also has an ipad app we love as well. The expansion is out of print and very expensive, but we would love to own it when it gets reprinted.

Deep strategic options
Good Brain "Burn"
everything on the board is icons, there is no literacy needed, except for the rule book. (there are you tube videos)
frustrating not doing much at first. (3 more)
scoring is in the 3-400's feels like way too much.
currently out of print in USA
not for beginners, the game gets better the more you play and understand what's going on.
Really good game, tight choices, can't possibly do all that you want before the game ends.
Despite the slight drawbacks this is a great worker placement game. 4 players is definitely better than 2 players. There were many times I wanted a spot and someone took it before me, which is part of what makes a great worker placement game. The theme works, but isn't really important. There are many paths to victory, you just need to optimize the one you choose.
I catan't stop playing this
Great gateway game for worker placement and resource building.
There are lots of ways to win this, and plenty of replayability.
It's not overly complex and most people should be able to get the hang of this quickly.
The pieces are a little basic but they do the job they were intended for.

Good quality
Dystopian themed worker placement game
This game is really not my cup of tea, which is an unpopular opinion to have in our house, since my husband is very fond of it. Although it is good-looking and I'm a fan of the exosuits, there is more interaction with the board than between players and I became increasingly restless (and grumpy) waiting for turns to be taken. It also felt overly complicated with very little pay-off in terms of enjoyment!

Great Artwork
11/10 Rating!
Components are just as amazing as the original game. Wooden meeples and adds a new resource that is just as amazing in quality for the pieces. As with the original the artwork is up to par and looks fanominal. Hand management doesn't change that much but there are new cards to burn through, learn, and play. Resource management is a game changer now that they added the pearls. These are worth extra points at the end of the game as well as needed to take the new basic events that replace the original basic events. These are valuable new resources that can be expensive to obtain. Frog embassadors change the game as the add a new element to worker placement. They are the only worker you own that can go to the new water locations and you only get one per season so you have to use them wisely. The new water locations are also face down until discovered adding new strategies and luck to each game. Still no resource holders which is more of a personal thing for me but they could always add them as an upgrade pack later or you can get some pretty nice theme ones off Etsy if you're willing to pay a higher price for them.
Entertainment Editor (1988 KP) rated Yokohama in Tabletop Games
Mar 8, 2018
If you like worker placement games and the need to plan ahead then Yokohama is going to be right up your alley. There are so many paths and directions to take during the game that it can be overwhelming on your first play, but once you get a feel for how things shake out it can be very satisfying to plan out and execute a long term strategy. The board looks incredibly cluttered with iconography on first blush, but it is actually very easy to parse once you’ve got a feel for the layout of each Production board, and the random setup keeps things interesting game to game. Player interaction is indirect, although if you pay attention you can cause your opponents some headaches if you manage to beat them to places that they want to be. With that being said, you will want to leave yourself at least a few options each turn, because you can find yourself caught out if your opponents beat you to the punch, but if there’s one thing Yokohama has in spades it’s options.
