Alex Trybus (79 KP) rated The Gathering in Books
Jan 26, 2018
A blatantly honest, gripping story about family.
"It blew me away. I found myself constantly highlighting quotes from it, stopping to think about how incredibly relatable it is. It is a book not only about death and grieving, but the ghosts that follow you throughout your life. Anne Enright speaks your innermost unspoken thoughts, and she does so unapologetically." -my bookstagram account, rorythereader.

Jaine's neighbor Lance has decided it's time for her to have a makeover. It doesn't land her any new clothes, but it does land her a job writing for one of the boutiques they visit. Only then the owner is killed with a high heel. The result is another funny mystery with wild characters you can't help but like.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2234 KP) rated High Water Hellion (Luanne Fogarty Mysteries, #5) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Luanne agrees to help her police boss Tony find something his aunt was rumored to throw into a lake. But then they find evidence that his aunt was murdered. With a hurricane coming, will they catch the killer? While there was one obvious plot point, the rest of the book was filled with the usual good storytelling, strong characters, and atmospheric writing.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2234 KP) rated Killer Blonde (A Jaine Austen Mystery, #3) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Jaine has taken a job ghost writing a party planning book, but SueEllen, her new boss, turns out to be horrible. But when the police begin focusing on a murdered SueEllen's step-daughter, Jaine steps in to find the killer. While the characters can be a bit shallow, they work in this laugh out loud, over the top, comedic mystery.

Cyn Armistead (14 KP) rated Sisters of the Raven in Books
Mar 1, 2018
Why do I have to give a book at least one star for it to be considered rated? 0 is a rating!
I put this book on the "read" shelf just so I won't forget that I tried it and didn't like it. Hambly's writing is excellent, as usual, but I wasn't in the mood for dystopia and I just didn't care much about the characters after the first 100 pages or so. I figure my time is much better spent elsewhere.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2234 KP) rated Delicious and Suspicious (A Memphis BBQ Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
A TV executive is scouting BBQ joins in Memphis and creating enemies. When she dies after eating at Aunt Pat's, owner Lulu Taylor decides to clear her reputation and her friends by finding the real killer. I liked the characters, but the plot dragged at times. The first chapter had some writing issues as well, but I was ultimately glad I continued.

Everything
I’m usually a bit hesitant to stray from my favorite authors and this time was no different. However, I’m soo glad I did! You want action, mystery, romance, betrayal? It’s all here. The best part is that it’s all here without the usual angsty cliches normally found in books that are listed as YA. I’m not going to recap the book, you can read the cover yourself. Read the book, read the series, you won’t regret it!!

A Great Summer Read
I started reading this book and couldn't stop. The chemistry between Danni-Rose and Benson is off the charts! Allison Mullinax has written a romance that sucked me in from the beginning and refused to let go. The writing flows so beautifully and the characters are great together. I loved the amount of support Benson showed for Danni and I loved the development of Danni. There was SO MUCH I wasn't expecting to happen in this!

Really? Another one?
So.... I loved the first film in this series "The Ultimate Gift". But this film is just bad. It tried to take the first one and copycat it without any of the drama, charisma or fun. This movie was boring. The main character was too nice and anything that he said to be mean felt out of character. The movie felt like a lazy cash grab.
