this is a deep dark mystery with added hot steamy scenes to keep you reading long into the night. The hot chemistry will set the pages alight as you read them. This is the second book in the series and can be read as a stand alone. This author is a fab story teller with an amazing writing style. This is a fast paced, very hot and steamy, suspenseful read you wont want to put down. I cant wait to read more from this author in the future.

Cathy Covarrubias (49 KP) rated Captain Marvel (2019) in Movies

Plot
Just what I needed!
One of the great things about this movie is there's no romance subplot. It's so rare to see a movie with a female lead and not involve romance. It makes Captain Marvel seem more real.
I know a lot of people don't like the way Captain Marvel is portrayed, but I loved it! I see a lot of myself in Captain Marvel. Her humor, mannerisms, speech, and attitude really remind me of myself. Female characters all seem to fit into one of 6 categories and this movie added one more! Thank you!

starwarsluvr (236 KP) rated Trust (Alex Conner Chronicles, #1) in Books

Holy wow, this was wonderful. It has magic, to be specific earth magic, and it has mystery and love and paranormal. There is fighting, making up, love, night life, magic, and so much more. Alex Conner is witty, sexy, strong, and a mystery. Parker Sinclair's writing takes you on a whirlwind of emotions and intrique and mystery. It is an amazing start to a wonderful series and it will pull you into this fast paced story that you have to keep reading until it's over and you still need more. I cannot wait for book 2 and to see what happens next.
ArecRain (8 KP) rated Gabriel's Woman (The Lover, #2) in Books

I seldom ever leave a novel unfinished once I have begun reading it. There are exceptions, however, and this so called "erotic" novel was one of them.
The only comments that I can give after reading the few chapters are even fewer. Her style is like that of Hemingway's, choppy and a stream of consciousness so that I found myself constantly rereading the same sentences and paragraphs just to understand what the author was trying to say. To me, the writing seemed far to staccato to even enjoy. I don't think I will be reading any more of Ms. Schone's erotic novels.

Christine Allard (22 KP) rated Red Clocks in Books

Interesting premise, writing got in the way.
I wanted to like this book. Managed to get through it in a few sittings, but it was a struggle. All but one of the women were unrelatable and shallowly formed. Frustrating that they were reduced to “titles” with their names seldom acknowledged.
Overall, it didn’t really spark any new thoughts on a complex issue, nor did it offer any resolution or new commentary about what an overturn of Roe v Wade would have on society.
Very disappointing. Not recommended.

Sweet but thin storyline
Nikesh Shukla's latest literary escapade is sweet, exploring familial ties and how fate plays a role in this family. The narrators include terminal cancer patient Neha, Kenyan-born father Mukesh, and hapless comedian brother Rakesh, each playing a role in their so-called pre-determined destinies.
The writing is witty and it's always wonderful to hear voices that represent BAME communities in modern Britain. But unfortunately it is a little thin in plot and storyline. It is a host of voices speaking about their perspectives and intricately joining together. An easy read.

Callie makes her living investigating non-profits for a living. Her latest case is supposed to just be a quick in and out before she gets a week's vacation until she finds the man she is giving the check to dead. Her boss asks her to investigate, and Callie finds herself in danger. The writing is a bit weak, but the plot more than makes up for it. I dare you to put it down anywhere in the last 100 pages.

Dana (24 KP) rated Sleepy Hollow and Other Stories in Books
Mar 23, 2018
While I very much enjoyed the first story, Sleepy Hollow, I was not as big a fan of the other five stories. I was expecting major creep factor, especially since Sleepy Hollow is so often turned into Halloween films, but it just wasn't there.
I think I am just not a big fan of Irving's writing style.
Rock Paper Books did an excellent job putting the stories together, though. The cover art was stunning and I am so glad I got this as part of my August 2017 Owlcrate.
All in all, it wasn't horrible, just not my cup of tea.

Christy Lewis (2 KP) rated This Is Us - Season 1 in TV
Feb 28, 2018
One of the best shows EVER.
Once in a while, there's something that comes along that touches you in your HEART - not just on an 'entertainment' level - but something that gets you at the core of your being. THIS IS US is just that...the writing is fantastic, the actors are fantastic, the storyline is fantastic. There's nothing about this show that could be improved. If you've not started watching it, do yourself a favor and start from Season 1, episode 1, and get caught up. It won't take you long, because it is binge worthy.
