Movie Critics (823 KP) rated Lemon (2017) in Movies
Sep 21, 2017
Although guaranteed to split critics and viewers alike, nobody can argue that Bravo and Gelman haven’t put their all into this absurdist, existential farce. The question remains: Will Lemon make or break that all-important first date comedy connection?

I am serious, and don't call me Shirley!
Classic 1980s absurdist comedy, apparently loosely based on the plot of an earlier film called 'Zero Hour' (edit: yes, with that earlier film released in 1957).
Eminently quotable, with plenty of gags throughout: the most famous, perhaps, being the "don't call me Shirley" gag but I'm also quite partial to the following:
"Nervous?"
"Yes"
"First time?"
"No, I've been nervous plenty of times before ..."

Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated Happy Utopia Day, Joe McCarthy in Books
Jan 12, 2018
[Happy Utopia Day, Joe McCarthy] by [J.T. Lundy] was a fast paced, semi absurdist spy thriller. The very unlikely hero of Chris Thompson is seen as a typical everyman who wants excitement until he realizes what that may cost him.
The characters [Lundy] creates are entertaining as are the situations they get in. It made me laugh out loud but also think about a lot of things. A book that can be entertaining and thought provoking is truly a gem.

The Craggus (360 KP) rated Sorry to Bother You (2018) in Movies

Sorry To Bother You (2018) has nothing to apologise for. #Review
Boots Riley’s absurdist, pitch-black satire may just end up becoming one of the most important and resonant films of our time. Not because its concerned particularly with the topical venality of Trumpism and the ongoing corruption of western political discourse but because it looks beyond these deplorable but ultimately transient phases at the bigger societal picture and savages the superficiality of a social media-driven world sleepwalking into a voluntary corporatocracy....
